Building for Growth

Improving Illinois' Food System Infrastructure

FamilyFarmed.org, in partnership with Neumann Family Services, is excited to announce the greater Chicagoland extension of our Building for Growth project.

Building for Growth encourages and supports infrastructure development in Illinois to help fruit and vegetable growers as well as artisan food producers to expand their business and increase their revenue. A primary goal of the project is to create a packing house and community kitchen resource planning guide for use by stakeholders throughout Illinois- including growers, regional planners, and entrepreneurs.

As part of our research, we are conducting two feasibility studies for community kitchens, one in Tazewell County and one in Chicago.  A community kitchen can go a long way toward alleviating some of the barriers growers and food artisans face when attempting to build or expand their business with value-added products.  It can also serve as economic development catalyst for the community, employees, and stakeholders engaged in business there.

FamilyFarmed.org has just released the community kitchen survey for greater Chicagoland farmers and food entrepreneurs.

Know of someone that might be interested in the proposed facility? Please forward this along!
