Yom Teruah begins ten days between it and the most holy day of the year, Yom Kippur. Traditionally, these ten days are called the "Ten Days of Awe." They are a special time in which it is time for brothers to make peace with brothers- before the day of judgment that is Yom Kippur.
To help us prepare our hearts during this time, we will post ahead of time some suggested prayer points for each of these ten days.
Like our forefathers in Egypt, if we truly want deliverance from that which binds us we must first "cry out." He will then hear our groaning and remember that we are His covenant people (Exo 2:23-24; 1 Pet 2:9-10). Without faith it is impossible to please Him, so we must pray with faith, believing that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him (Heb 11:6). At this time we especially need to cry out in prayer for the changes that we desire.
In my feast book we offer ten suggested prayers (along with the verse references from which the ideas were taken). There is one section for each of the Ten Days of Awe (see chapter 29, "Ten Days of Prayer"). These prayers especially focus on Israel's restoration and reunion.
A similar, less extensive list is likewise available in the now out of print book, E&J, IR; although out of print this handy book is available in a free PDF format (see "Prayer Points" pages 34-37). You may obtain a free copy
Finally, we want to suggest that you listen to a new song, written by me and recorded by my friend, Will Spires. The song is titled "I AM YHVH" and it is truly inspiring. You might want to listen to it before you pray. The song is about the Father's heart cry for His chosen people: Judah and Ephraim. You can hear it at
Prayer Points for Day 2:
Pray that all Israel will see the truth about the melo hagoyim promised to Ephraim, and that the fullness of Gentiles will come into their fullness, or maturity. Pray that Ephraim will cease to be jealous of Judah, whether that jealousy is acted out in violence or in wishing they were Jewish. Pray that Ephraim will make Judah jealous rather than being jealous of Judah, which causes Ephraim to lose his effectiveness (Rom 9:25,26; 10:19; 11:11; Hos 1:9,0; 2:23). Pray that Ephraim will learn to judge with righteous judgment, and that in their desire to be reunited with Judah they will not trade errant Christian ways for errant Jewish ways (Isa 11:13; Jer 15:19-21; 31:21-25; John 7:24).
