Starting a New Business

The seven steps to start a new business are:

  • Gather Information

Leadership Farmville
2011-2012 Class Information
The Board of Directors of the Farmville Area Chamber of Commerce is interested in the  formation of another Leadership Farmville class starting September 8, 2011. This 7-month program has successfully provided networking and professional development opportunities to Leadership Farmville graduates. Additionally, we encourage alumni to strengthen their community involvement so that the leadership skills they garnered from the program may serve to continually improve the surrounding region.
Purpose

- Create an expanding pool of people who will be leaders in their home, workplace and community.

Objectives

- Help participants develop their own leadership potential by educating them about the role and workings of government, education and volunteer community service.

- Unite community residents from diverse backgrounds to ensure that the tapestry of partnership is woven with all threads so the quilt of common purpose is the truth, is durable, and comfortably fits.

- Provide allies for those who already hold elective or appointive office. Those who understand the process of government and how community functions will be more likely to respond effectively to the reality of challenge and potential.

- Explain the relationship between the community and the regional, state and federal governments so that challenges and solutions, understanding and answers, are complete, not partial.

Participants

- A maximum of twenty-five people will be selected from those who apply, based on information provided by the applicants and from references. Participants will be expected to dedicate themselves to the program and be prepared to give their time, intellect, and energy. What is derived from the program will be directly dependent on how much each participant puts into Leadership Farmville. It is an honor to be chosen and participants will be expected to respond like leaders.

Program

- Leadership Farmville is a seven-month program with sessions devoted to a variety of subjects that affect community growth and quality of life, including: government, education, economic development, and community service subjects.

Tuition

- Tuition of $100 may be paid by the employer or the participant. Tuition must be paid in full by the first session. Please make checks payable to Leadership Farmville.

Placement

- Those who graduate from Leadership Farmville will form the nucleus of the community's future. They will be eligible to join the alumni association, which will compile and maintain a list for organizations of persons who are ready and willing to lead the community in unique ways.

Benefits

- Nine Leadership Class Sessions with dinner provided

- Day Trip to the General Assembly

- Myers Briggs Personality Assessment

- Opening Dinner

- Graduation Dinner

If you are interested in participating in this rewarding venture, please contact the Chamber office at 434-392-3939 or tory@farmvilleareachamber.org to find out more about the program or to make your reservation. Leadership Farmville applications may be found on the Farmville Area Chamber of Commerce website.
