Hello!
Summer time in Texas adds an additional level of need for fluids. While many struggle to get in their recommended fluids during the winter, it becomes even harder in the summer. Many people do not realize the extra demand for fluids with the hot summers and additional sweating that many do.
The recommendation of 8 servings of 8 ounces of fluid in a day is for the average weight person, who consumes their recommended amount of calories and nutrients and who does not exercise, consume caffeine or alcohol. Your needs may be a lot higher than you think if any of the above apply. For an individualized recommendation, consult with your registered dietitian.
Healthy Regards, Kathryn Fink, MS, RD, CSSD, LD Nutrition & Fitness Consultant

Great hydration choices Beverages can be an important area to pay attention to.
- Water
- Juice
- Milk
- Sports Drinks
Keep in mind that if you are struggling with your weight, beverages can be an important area to pay attention to. If you eat plenty of nutrient rich solid foods and meet your caloric intake from these, better choices typically are water and low calorie beverages such as flavored waters. If you struggle with getting in your nutrients from solid foods, choose more juice and milk over water.
Poor hydrating choices include caffeinated beverages and alcoholic.
If you are an athlete or exercise greater than 90 minutes a day, additional recommendations may apply (check with your CSSD dietitian for individual needs).

New publication recommendation Le Chef's Fitness Foods, written by Luther Jones
I am honored to announce a new publication this month. Le Chef's Fitness Foods, written by Luther Jones, a professionally trained Chef, who specializes in culinary creations that appeal to the eye, nose, taste and tactile senses but which are dietetically designed to support health and longevity.
As an author, he has produced a collection of healthy recipes in his cookbook, Le Chef's Fitness Foods. His motto: "Belief is biology; change your belief for healthy longevity."
This is a great book that provides nutrient rich recipes to assist you in making healthier selections. I provided the analysis for many of the recipes and am impressed with the balance of nutrients provided.
The recipe of the month below is a sample of one of the recipes in the cookbook.
