Hello!
It will be here before you know it. I thought this month we should focus on men's health yet women can also benefit from the advice. Enjoy the summer months and take advantage of the outdoors.

Fire up the Grill Summer time brings an increase desire to fire up the Grill
- Firing up the grill can be a way of connecting with the outdoors. (Make sure to wear a hat or some sun screen so that you aren't the one burned to a crisp.)
- Grilling can improve your enjoyment and variety in foods.
- This is a way to have leaner meals because it reduces the fat in your food items.
- Try cutting your vegetables into large pieces and grilling them for added favor.

Food Safety for Grilling Food Safety is important...
Keep in mind that even while grilling, food safety is really important. Checking the temperature of your meats is crucial in protecting your family from food borne illness. It is recommended you cook your meats to the minimum safe temperatures (note, those who like their meats on the more rare side will not reach the minimum temperatures and put themselves at increased risk).
Key minimum temperatures to help include: - Ground Beef 160
- Beef Steaks and Roast 145
- Poultry 165
- Fish 145
- Pork 160

"It's a Guy Thing" Scheduled June 19th at Baylor Health Center at Irving-Coppell from 7:30 - noon.
To register for the "It's a Guy Thing" call 1-800-4BAYLOR. Have the men in your life check their risk factors. Health screens include:
- Cholesterol
- Glucose
- Blood Pressure
- Sleep Apnea
- Body Fat Analysis
- Lung Function and information booths on many other conditions.
Remember the men in your life and encourage them to do a check up on their health. You have heard the often voiced statement from some men that they do not want to go to the doctor and their health is fine. This is a non-invasive way to have their numbers checked to see if they are indeed at risk. While this is no replacement for a visit to their physician, it is a very inexpensive (how about free) way to assess their numbers.
A few months ago they did this for women and I attended and really was impressed with the set up. I hope that you will take advantage of the free screenings for men at Baylor on June 19th. You must register by calling 1-800-4BAYLOR.
