Dear ELP Fellows, Each one of us is integral to the Emerging Leaders Program community, doing our parts to make the Program complete. In the past, ELP has received donations from The Boston Globe Foundation, The Boston Foundation, and other donors to help support scholarships for ELP members in the non-profit sector. During this tough economic time funding for scholarships has diminished. Last year, the ELP was able to accept 10 fellows from the non-profit sector. This year, to date, 7 potential non-profit fellows have been nominated, and we are concerned that the lack of scholarship contributions will make it difficult for these potential fellows to attend. As I reflect back, I realize one of the biggest contributions of the ELP is that it encourages individuals to cross boundaries and sectors in meaningful and long lasting ways. Individuals from the business world work closely with those from the non-profit and governmental sectors. These more inclusive ways of working together are essential for our communities in the future. To break the situation down, the fee to attend the program is $6,800 this year. If ELP funded partial scholarships to the 7 non-profit individuals, the ELP budget will have a shortfall of $23,800 - a shortfall that the program cannot manage as they are also facing a reduction in University support. Therefore, we are asking for your help. The ELP Alumni Board is committed to raising the funds needed to support the value of having non-profit fellows in the program. Any amount is appreciated. Visit http://www.leaders.umb.edu/index.php/article/donate/. Please, help us help individuals from the non-profit sector participate in the 2010 cohort of the Emerging Leaders Program. Sincerely, Stephen Finocchio Chair, ELP Alumni Board on behalf of the ELP Alumni Board |

Brief History of ELP |
