Gamka -we've got it
"Don't be afraid to see what you see."    Ronald Reagan

Greetings!
Bob Hibler's Photo
The dust is settling over the outcome of the Mid-Term Elections and there is still plenty of it in the air to cloud the results. It was not a total rout but enough to point out that we, the People, do not like things as they are.

We, the People, were told that even after two years of pounding, we did not get it, that it was not the message but a failure to adequately communicate it to us. That came directly from the TelePrompTer Orator himself.

On the contrary, I must beg to differ! We DID get it, hence the vote conclusion. But this is not the end, it is the beginning. There are enough of our "Representatives" in Washington who will continue with business as usual if left alone. The days of "Trust me, I am from the government and here to help you", are long over for me. I don't know about you but I am also deleting the word "compromise" from my vocabulary. "The other teams could make trouble for us if they win." (Yogi Berra), don't cha know? Can we say "Term Limits"?

If we are to see more jobs, less government, fewer restrictions on the free enterprise system, lower taxes, less spending, repealing Obamacare, fixing Social Security, securing our borders, curing illegal immigration, having a government that works for us and not the other way around,  we must keep on the backs of our legislators. Follow the Constitution. Stay out of my face; keep your hands off my wallet. Respect our troops. Fight wars to win. Dump the czars. Stop apologizing. Don't bow to anyone. Fuggedabout global warming. Keep our nukes. Don't touch my junk!

When was the last time you signed a contract without reading it? Not reading a bill before passing it is reprehensible, irresponsible and unacceptable from now on. I bet you took 10% out of your business expenses in the last two years and managed to get along just fine. That sounds like a good start for the feds.

When 50% of the population does not pay taxes the popularity of government entitlement programs is perfectly understandable. What ever happened to the work ethic, pride in ownership, pulling yourself up by your bootstraps, having two jobs, saying NO if you cannot afford it?  George Bernard Shaw said, "A government policy to rob Peter to pay Paul can be assured of the support of Paul." My name is Bob, not Peter, but I have had enough. What about you?
It is up to us. My grandfather used to say, "God helps those who help themselves." We cannot wish change to happen; we have to work at it.

The holiday decorations up in the stores since before Halloween remind me it is high time to say Joy to the World; Peace on Earth, Goodwill Toward Men; Trust But Verify; with a politically correct, "Season's Greetings" to you all.

And go ahead, shoot me for saying it...  Merry Christmas, too, from all of us Gamkas.

Sincerely,
Bob Hibler Signature

Winter Poses Heating Hazards

According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), fires and deaths caused by fires occur most frequently in the winter.

Extremely cold weather in the northern states and unusually cold weather in the southern states the past few years affected many businesses.

Space and Portable Heaters

NFPA statistics show that the leading cause of fires is largely one of human error, particularly with the misuse of space and portable heaters. The primary causes include:

1) Placing things that can burn too close to space and portable heaters

2) Fueling errors involving space and portable heaters

3) Leaving space and portable heaters unattended

Tips for Preventing Heating Equipment Fires

When purchasing new heating equipment, select equipment that bears the mark of a nationally recognized testing laboratory like Underwriters' Laboratories. Install and maintain the equipment correctly and be sure it complies with all local fire codes. It's not a bad idea to have local fire officials check the installation and maintenance of space and portable heaters. Some general tips include:

1) Be sure to read the owner's manual and all safety related information. Train all employees in the safe and proper use of the equipment.

2) Keep space and portable heaters at least 36 inches away from anything combustible (paper, boxes, walls, woodwork).

3) Be sure to use only the fuel designated by the manufacturer of the heater. Allow the heater to cool down before refueling. Store the fuel well away from the heater.

4) Electric heaters should be plugged only into circuits that can handle the extra load. These types of heaters require much more power than a light bulb or an electric powered hand tool.

5) Space heaters should never be left unattended, especially overnight.

6) Keep an all purpose fire extinguisher close at hand, just in case.

7) Have the heater serviced by a qualified technician after the heating season to be sure it's ready for next year.

Health Considerations

Keep in mind that kerosene, oil and gas-fired furnaces and heaters require ventilation. Without ventilation there may be excessive levels of carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide in the building. Furnaces and heaters that have dirty combustion chambers or where the fuel and air mixture is improperly adjusted can cause incomplete combustion. Excessive amounts of pollutants in the air can cause health problems for anyone exposed.

Furnaces and heaters are designed to keep people warm and companies in business no matter what the weather. Proper care and maintenance of this equipment is necessary for maximum comfort and profitability.

And it is worth repeating, Keep an all purpose fire extinguisher close at hand, just in case.
