Happy New Year!

Resolutions are often part of our transition to the New Year.  We would like to have this V-Trail Update serve as an even broader conduit of Opportunities and Resources; thus, if the organization you represent has an opportunity or a resource (conference, training, tool, etc.) to share with others among the 600+ V-Trailers around the country, let me know.  I resolve to include as much information as I can about opportunities and resources available to and of possible interest to V-Trailers everywhere, similar to the Communication Quick Tips one-pager that we included in last month's V-Trail Update.

Send information to me via email, jsarcaurora@aol.com.  My goal is a mid-month publication.

Cheers to a productive, rewarding 2012!

False Claims Act Video and Podcast

The False Claims Act provides a way for the government to recover money when someone submits false or fraudulent claims for payment to the Medicare and Medicaid programs. This video and audio podcast includes examples of claims that may be false and discusses what providers should do to ensure the claims they submit are true and accurate.

You can view the PCT videos and an introductory video by the Inspector General, and listen to the podcasts at http://go.usa.gov/NKP.

On January 27, 2012, at 2 p.m. ET, the Office for Victims of C will conduct a Web Forum Guest Host Session on building resiliency within victim service organizations. Janice Harris Lord, a Fellow in Thanatology at the Association of Death Education and Counseling, and Karen Kalergis, an Associate Director of Education and Communications at the Institute on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, will lead the discussion.

Jefferson City, Mo.- Attorney General Chris Koster today announced a settlement with Lana Reece-Gates, owner of Dignity Home Health Care Services, a St. Louis-based company that provides in-home personal care services. The settlement resolves allegations that Reece-Gates submitted false claims to Medicaid and failed to run appropriate background screenings on personal care attendants. Koster said his Medicaid Fraud Control Unit's investigation revealed that Reece-Gates knowingly submitted false claims to Medicaid. She failed to run required background checks on personal care workers, and in at least one instance allowed an attendant to provide services when she knew the attendant had failed the background check. Reece-Gates then falsified records, indicating that she had provided the services.
