Greetings!
The New Year often inspires us to put forth ideas for change and symbolizes our desire to make a fresh start. With that in mind, we've focused our newsletter on those themes as well.
You will find articles and links connected to making change in your business or organization, as well as those focused on your personal needs and emotional well-being. Our Featured Business Article focus on the impact of office politics - literally, and our Personal Matters article focuses on ways to resolve those internal arguments which plague the mind.
Finally, a change of our own. This year I am beginning a new training series with my valued colleague Mary Lee Wegner, Esq. Together we will lead a specialized program that both educates and engages participants in a discussion and problem-solving session about issues occurring in the workplace. This will be a small-group dinner program, we hope you'll check it out!
We hope 2012 is a powerful and important year for you, and for your business. We look forward to remaining your partner in peace.
All the best,

Office Politics
Office politics may be something we all talk about - but in an election year, the expression takes on a whole new meaning. As a behavior brought about by those who seek power and influence, consider the potential for staff in your organization to desire the power and influence to see their party or candidate take office come Election Day.
Hot-button issues like the economy, unemployment, and healthcare are hitting-home and leading people to become more opinionated and more entrenched in their beliefs. Friendly conversation about current events can quickly turn into heated debate. Repeat interactions may lead some to feel pushed, challenged, or bullied. It is these office politics that threaten to derail your business as they undermine morale, hinder teamwork, damage productivity, and may also lead to more troubling... Read more

That Internal Argument
Do you find yourself engaging in internal arguments? The kind that runs through your head as you're trying to relax or interrupts what might otherwise be mental quiet time? With January being a time for resolutions - perhaps one healthy resolution to consider is letting go of those unhealthy internal conversations.
While these battles in our mind may serve a purpose - by helping us to think things through or by providing an outlet for our frustrations - they often do so at a cost. Such arguments often signal our inability to move past a problem or conflict. And, as the conflict repeats in your head, lingers, and remains unresolved, it actually damages the relationship you were most likely hoping to preserve. Read more

The High Risk of a "Wait and See" Approach
Chances are your company is one of the many taking a "wait and see" approach to one or more business issues right now. The approach plays out like this:
- "Should we redo our website? Let's wait and see what the competitors do."
- "Should we expand into a new market? Let's wait and see what the economy does."
- "Should we invest in cloud technologies to increase the speed and agility of the organization? Let's wait and see what new innovations will be released."
On the surface, taking a "wait and see" approach seems to make sense. After all, we're dealing with a U.S. and global economy that's filled with uncertainties... Read more

Feeling Upset? Check for Distorted Thinking.
The way you think about things can affect the way you feel. That's a basic premise of cognitive therapy. Here's an example. One morning you get to work and realize that you left your iPad at home. You have these thoughts: "Oh no, I forgot my iPad. I'll never be able to get any work done today. I don't even have my calendar. I know I have some appointments but I don't remember when. This is terrible. If my boss finds out about this, he might fire me." Well, after that thought you might be pretty anxious. Read more

A New Year,
A New Program
I am pleased to announce I will be partnering with my colleague, Mary Lee Wegner, Esq. to provide a series of in-depth training and educational programs geared toward Human Resource professionals, and small business owners.
Our first program will occur on February 23rd and will focus on recent Legal Updates, and strategies for implementing those incumbent changes in a peaceful and productive manner to your workforce.
The 2-hour HRCI approved program is being kept intentionally small - so as to allow for skill-building, group discussion and Q&A.
We expect this program to sell-out, so reserve your spot today!
For more details about the program and it's content:

This seal is not an endorsement by HRCI of the quality of the program.

Business and Personal Resolutions - Change Requires no Calendar Starting off on the right foot doesn't have to happen on January 1st, Here are some ideas that inspire change and offer strategies for making that change a reality.

We often hear about the value of recognizing others in the workplace. This short article by John Kralik emphasizes the value in a whole new way. Up Your Gratitude I recently read a fascinating column in Parade Magazine about our sense of touch. It begins with a foot massage but ends with something much more powerful. I highly recommend the quick read. Ask Marilyn - Parade Magazine __________________
