NagareNagare
July Training Theme
Nagare is translated as flow

The term Ki-No Nagare refers to the flow of energy in all things. In Aikido, Ki-No Nagare includes the act of blending and redirecting energies in a dynamic manner.  To focus on Nagare in our training, we practice allowing the energy of uke's attack to keep flowing as we direct it. This is different from stopping, resisting, or fighting against the force or direction of the attack.. Some might say it's the ultimate blending practice. A focus on Nagare can also be useful in our ongoing ukemi practice.  Just setting the intention to stay attuned to each present moment helps develop the ability and awareness to remain actively engaged in the continuously unfolding interaction - expecting nothing, being ready for anything.
FlowersFlower Shihan
Thank you Michele Scurria, July Flower Shihan.
The shomen (head of room where O'Sensei's picture is) has been beautifully adorne
d under Michele's attentive care.

What is a Flower Shihan?
It is the dojo member who oversees the Shomen flowers for a month.  Flower Shihan doesn't need to bring all of the flowers, he/she invites everyone to participate. Shihan is actually a title of great honor. All dojo members are invited to take a turn as Flower Shihan. Click Here to tell Sensei you'd like to volunteer to be our Flower Shihan for August (or any other upcoming month)
Our Year So Far
at Aikido of San Luis Obispo

As we reach mid-Summer, it's wonderful to reflect on how much we've accomplished already

We entered our
year with the joyous success of reaching our 2008 Year-End Fundraiser Goal....$10,000 !  Your enthusiasm and generosity with our annual Fund Drive is what allowed Aikido of San Luis Obispo to enter our 22nd year of providing a place and a way for Adults and Children to practice The Art of Peace!  2008 Fundraiser Appreciation List

In January we received an overwhelmingly generous donation from Wicke Chandler - Brand New Zebra Mats!  Click link to see our fun unloading them: wickefunnynew mat arrivalNew Mats Arrive

A
hearty crew of dojo members removed our old mats and tore out the floor beneath them in one night! Click link to see our Demolition Day

With incre
dible dojo community teamwork (including help from our wonderful Aikido of Monterey friends) we built and installed a raised floor, custom frame, and laid our new mats, all in one amazing day of Aiki action, comraderie and fun. See the miracle of CommunityMat Day
