Greetings!

Each summer God blesses us in many ways: cookouts with family and friends, warm weather, sunshine, memorable vacations and so much more. Perhaps God's greatest summer blessing comes to us in the form of St. Louis Cardinals baseball. The excitement of a baseball game Busch Stadium in St. Louis is unmatched, especially when that team from Chicago is in town. Each time I am at a game, I can't help but look around at the thousands of people cheering on those playing on the green field below. When the team is behind the crowd cheers to rally them and when they are ahead the crowd encourages them on. The fans in the stands share in the sadness of a loss and celebrate with the team in each victory. Is our Christian life any different? Are we not surrounded by other believers in Jesus Christ and those who have gone before us? Are they not there to support us, cheer for us, comfort us and console us? Look at the Epistle to the Hebrews 12:1-3: Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the sake of the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such hostility against himself from sinners, so that you may not grow weary or lose heart. As we begin our summer activities this weekend, let us remember that we are not alone in our Christian walk. Our brothers and sisters in Christ are with us each play of the game of life. Knowing and embracing that can provide more comfort than a Cardinals winning streak and more excitement than a homerun.
