Calvary Prayer Chain
Prayer in Scripture

1 John 5:14-15

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us-whatever we ask-we know that we have what we asked of him.
Greetings!

Josh BarnettFor many years the E-Mail Prayer Chain has been a wonderful way to lift the joy and concerns of our congregation up in prayer. Each time the prayer chain is released more than two hundred people pray for the requests listed. What a tremendous blessing to have so many prayer warriors at Calvary! Today I am excited to share an opportunity to add even more prayer warriors at Calvary.

Beginning Sunday, May 30 (one week from this Sunday) we will begin listing the non-confidential prayers of the congregation on a weekly insert in our bulletin. We will separate our prayers into five focused areas:
  • Joy & Celebration (prayers to celebrate births, weddings and other joys)
  • Ongoing Needs (prayers for those with ongoing issues)
  • Comfort & Healing (prayers for those ill or suffering health issues and other concerns)
  • Sympathy (prayers for those who have lost a loved one)
  • Military (prayers for our servicemen and women)

This coming Monday, May 24, you will also see a new Calvary E-mail Prayer Chain, reflecting the changes mentioned above. We are very excited about this change and hope the E-mail Prayer Chain and weekly bulletin insert become tools to enrich your prayer life while lifting up others to God.

With this new format also come two changes in the way we share prayers:
  • Beginning Monday, only prayers shared by the person listed in the prayer or a member of their immediate family will be published. While it is important to lift up all needs in prayer, it is prudent for us to respect the possibility of a delicate or confidential situation. Unless marked for "pastors only" all prayers will continue to be shared and prayed over at our weekly staff meeting. However, we will only publish prayer requests shared by the person listed in the request or a member of their immediate family.
  • Prayer requests will be limited to one sentence so that there will be room for all requests to be printed in the Sunday bulletin.

Moving to this new format is exciting. In a very big way, we are going to enable the Body of Christ, the church, to encourage one another through prayer in a way not done before. Imagine the power of each one of our 750 worshipers having access to and praying for the joys and concerns of the Calvary family each week!

Please join me in praying for this transition and new process. Ask that God would guide the pastors, staff and lay leaders of Calvary during this time and that each of us would come to know Him better because of it.
