| Greetings!
October was another packed month - with lots of good stuff have been going down at the Academy - both in Jiu Jitsu and fitness. As the weather has been getting colder and days shorter, folks have stayed committed to a health life-style - making it in to train and get their fitness on. Keep up the great work.
As we move into months that have many holidays and the potential of bad weather - we just want to remind people of a few things:
- The best ways to find out information about the academy is the Members' Page, the FB page, or calling in 503.327.8265. We'll be sure to keep these communication channels up to date.
- Texting will be used to contact specific groups of folks - ask Coach Tom if you want to be added to a text group.
- Five Rings goes the way of the Beaverton School District - if the school district closes, then we'll be closed that day. If the district has a weather delayed open, odds are pretty good that we'll be open for training, but no instructionals. The golden rule when it comes to bad weather is that we don't want to put our members, our coaches, are anyone else in danger - safety first!
November brings Five Rings 2nd Birthday - Happy Birthday to everyone. It has been a FANTASTIC two years ... and things are only getting better. We have a lot to be proud of and to celebrate. Team Ribeiro Lovato NW takes 2nd at Oregon Open!

Saturday, October 1, marked the launch of the Ribeiro Lovato NW team. The event was the Oregon Open in Hillsboro, Oregon. On our first outing as a regional team, and we brought home 2nd place overall - GREAT JOB GUYS!

Three academies came together and united forces to represent the Ribeiro Jiu Jitsu Association and Rafael Lovato Jr.:
- Five Rings Jiu Jitsu out of Portland, Oregon
- Seaside Brazilian Jiu Jitsu out of Seaside, Oregon
- Salem-Keizer Jiu Jitsu from Salem, Oregon

With over 60 competitors under the Ribeiro Lovato NW flag, we also brought a coaching staff of eight coaches, a media crew managing four video cameras (and recorded over one thirty matches) and two photographers that took over twelve hundred pics, and a small army of supporters that cheered and supported in the bleachers.

Parent Date Night - Ninja Night a HUGE Success
|
Saturday October 22nd marked the day of Five Rings Jiu Jitsu's largest Ninja Night / Parent Date Night to date!
Thirty one kids from ages 6-16 showed "intensity with a smile" while learning and practicing self-defense, tournament Jiu Jitsu, gaining a deeper understanding of the life skill lesson on "Perseverance", competing in a mini tournament and battling it out in the kids olympics obstacle course. It was an action packed evening.
Good natured competition transitioned nicely into a talkative pizza party and then to a quite viewing of "Despicable Me" on the gym's new 80" projection screen.

Jiu Jitsu in Hillsboro at SWEAT360 - Update

Wow! Things are rolling in Hillsboro. The SWEAT360 affiliate of Five Rings Jiu Jitsu is getting stronger week by week.
Led by Coach Andreas Correa - the club has grown to ten athletes and just got over 800 sq. ft. of NEW Zebra mats ... they are AWESOME!!!
The crew is hunger to learn and they are working through the BJJ 1 curriculum.

Five Rings crew travels to Fulcrum Jiu Jitsu
|
On Friday, October 28, about a dozen Five Rings athletes travelled to Lake Oswego to train with one of the newest gyms in the Portland scene - Fulcrum Jiu Jitsu.
Fulcrum Jiu Jitsu launched about three months ago is headed by Keisuke Andrew, Jonathon Lee, and Jason Tubania. Fulcrum Jiu Jitsu will teach Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Mixed Martial Arts, and Striking. Full Report |

The Ribeiro Annual Meeting was held in September following the American Nationals Tournament. It was a GREAT time to get to hang-out with other Ribeiro affiliates from all of the country.
Next year, the I'm hoping that Five Rings will bring a team of athletes / members to be a part of this great event!
