First Day - Little Samurais
Five Rings is excited to have kicked-off our Little Samurai (age 4 - 7) program in September.
Greetings!

September brought an updated schedule, a new belt structure, and enhanced curriculum / class tie-in. The response from members has been great ... students are enjoying the focus on technique, smaller coach to student ratios, and the expanded schedule.

The Youth Programs (Little Samurai, Juniors, and Teens) are in high gear; with positive energy coming off the floor from 4:30 - 6:00 pm daily. The three strands of the curriculum are really making a positive impression on the growth and development of our young athletes:
  • life-skills
  • bully proof / self-defense
  • Jiu Jitsu
All in a fun, positive, interactive environment.

October brings the Oregon Open, the Rafael Lovato Jr. Seminar, Parent Date Night / Ninja Night, and lots of great training! See you on the mat!

In good health,

Coach Tom

Ten kids participated in the first Little Samurai class. Many of the children are the sons and daughters of current academy members (which we absolutely love) or friends referred by members (great too!). A special surprise . . .

Coach Eric along with coaches Jessica, Ziggy, John, Hixon and Chloe presented 2 hours of technique, mostly in the form of games, designed to help empower children to stand up to bullies while eliminating the need for punching and kicking. This amazing group of kids took to Jiu Jitsu with amazing focus and enthusiasm.

They will now have the opportunity to attend a second level of training here at Five Rings and to earn there Jiu Jitsu white belt.

One Person's Jiu Jitsu Journey Shared

Dan VanDetta
Began his Jiu Jitsu in Dec of 2010

From the writings of Dan VanDetta:

"A fellow gym member has asked that I start posting here more often and I debated on how best to do that. It's been about 9 months since I started here at Five Rings and I figured I would share my thoughts and feelings on how I got this far.

It is my intention that this journal will share my personal growth with friends, teammates, and any who might find it inspirational to their own jiu jitsu journey. If some kernel is particularly relevant to you, please share that with me. As I've come to discover, feedback is a dynamic tool for growth and learning. Rather than post it all at once, I've chosen to share it a bit at a time - I most assuredly didn't experience it all at once, so why rush?"
