Sparking Creativity Among Our Youth!!
Do you know youth or organizations that serve youth who would like to design a creative, engaging graphic that tells a story about how children are doing in our nation or state?
KIDS COUNT is promoting an exciting graphic competition - the KIDS COUNT Infographic Challenge. The top two winners will receive a new laptop and state-of-the-art graphic software! The objective of the KIDS COUNT Infographic Challenge is to have participants use data from the KIDS COUNT Data Center to design a creative infographic that depicts child well-being. The competition is a crowd sourced contest that invites young people (ages 13 to 24) and adults (25 and up). As you know, the right data, in the right format can change how we think and inspire us to find new solutions to problems we face. Together with the unique, fresh perspective of youth, we believe the results could be amazing. The challenge launched Wednesday, September 5th, 2012. The actual voting begins October 1st.
Anyone interested in entering the competition, needs to:
- Design an infographic or visual image using that data. (Need help? Check out visual.ly.)
- Upload it to the challenge platform and activate your social networks to get your friends to vote for your entry when the voting period opens.
Please help us get the word out about this challenge. We want to reach as many young people as possible and share this great opportunity with them. Also, we will gladly send out the word and have our networks get actively involved in the voting of New York-based applications so please let us know about New York submissions! Please don't hesitate to contact the KWIC team at kwic@ccf.ny.gov with any questions.
Best of luck to all!

Darrell Gwynn Foundation
Wheelchair Donation Program
Actively Seeks Wheelchair Recipients

Changing lives four wheels at a time. Unlike many other wheelchair donation programs and related charities, the Darrell Gwynn Foundation specializes in high-tech, customized wheelchairs. While standard manual wheelchairs are valued at approximately $350, the wheelchairs we provide are valued anywhere from $6,000 to $40,000 depending on the medical needs of the recipient. The foundation donates brand new, highly customized manual and power wheelchairs to children and adults who have been denied by Medicaid, Medicare, private insurance companies, or those lacking insurance coverage. Preference will be given to applicants between 2 and 45 years of age. To qualify, applicants must be a US citizen or permanent resident of the US for at least six months. There is no other wheelchair donation program in the country that provides these highly customized wheelchairs at no cost to permanently disabled individuals.
