The recent abortion report by the Ohio Department of Health confirms Cleveland Right to Life's recent reiteration of the organizations support for the child's rights to be nurtured in families that consist of a man and woman in a married relationship. The report notes "Approximately 83% of women who obtained an abortion were never married, divorced, or widowed. Twelve percent of procedures were obtained by married or separated women. The marital status distribution has remained constant since 1994." Molly Smith, President of Cleveland Right to Life said "This data shows once again that a child conceived outside of marriage is at grave risk. We must protect these children by helping their parents to provide a stable safe environment for the child both before and after they are born." Smith noted that prolife organizations are aware of the strong connection between the breakdown of the family and the increase in abortions. "Just this week another high-profile northeast Ohio group, HELP improved their mission statement to include the defense of traditional marriage while several others are in the process of discussing how to strengthen their statements to include this defense of the child" she said.

The ODH report shows an overall increase of the total number of abortions in the county but the number of abortions performed on Cuyahoga County residents has decreased every year for the past decade except for a slight increase in 2007. Unfortunately abortions in the State have seen an increase in 2012 but according to the report "... while this represents an increase of 709 terminations overall compared to 2011, this may be due to the unusually low number of terminations reported for the month of January 2011"

The report also shows that Black women in Cuyahoga County who terminated the lives of their babies increased by almost 100. Ohio Right to Life has compiled a map of the reason for this increase by showing how the abortion industry targets this demographic group. Smith said "The Eugenics Movement is alive and well in Ohio and we must wise up to the fact that Planned Parenthood was built on a eugenics strategy that targets the African American population as outlined by their founder, world renowned eugenicist Margaret Sanger. The facts speak for themselves. Over 40% of all abortions in Ohio and a staggering 63% of resident abortions in Cuyahoga County are performed on Black women. There is no doubt that we are witnessing a genocide in our county!"
For Cleveland Right to Life, exposing this genocide is a top priority. We do this through education programs aimed at awareness and material support for urban families. "Our 2014 Bringing America Back to Life Symposium will provide workshops and presentation by local and national African American leaders so as to search for solutions to end the violence against women and children." remarked Smith.
"The hard work of the prolife grassroots in northeast Ohio certainly has much to do with the decrease in the residential abortions. However the death of even one child through this horrible procedure demands that we double our efforts to end abortion in our region" concluded Smith.
