Tools & Resources for Leaders
Gracious Father, we pray for your holy Catholic Church. Fill it with all truth, in all truth with all peace. Where it is corrupt, purify it; where it is in error, direct it; where in any thing it is amiss, reform it. Where it is right, strengthen it; where it is in want, provide for it; where it is divided, reunite it; for the sake of Jesus Christ your Son our Savior. Amen.

ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM THE BISHOP'S OFFICE

2015 Commitment Forms Due August 25th

By the Diocesan Budget Committee

This is a gentle reminder that the budget committee needs your commitment letter, filled out, with proper signatures, by August 25th. We know several congregations will complete this at their August vestry meeting, and several have already submitted their letter.

Our sincere thanks to all who have submitted, and those who are intending to do so by the deadline. Of those already submitted, most meet or exceed the requested and needed fifteen percent. Your budget committee is most appreciative of the prompt replies and the full commitments made. Hopefully, this can continue.

God calls us to be engaged missional Christians, and we are all called to work, pray, and give for the support of Christ's Church...in the congregation and in the diocese. We are all in this great work together, and many hands, all working together, equally, make light work. Jesus reminds us: "Take my yoke upon you, for my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." With all of us pulling our weight, it will indeed be light.

Thank you in advance for all each of our individual congregations do for the work we are called as a diocese to do.

Church Audits Due Sept. 1st

Nominations for Diocesan Positions Now Open

By the Rev. Rose Bogal-Allbritten, Nominating Committee Chair

To "work, pray and give for the spread of the kingdom of God" is one of the duties that we assume as Christians (BCP, p. 856). Stewardship is our personal response to God's generosity in the way we share our time, talents and financial resources. While it is easy to think of stewardship as something that happens on a congregational level, we need to remember that stewardship must not be limited to our response at the local level. We are also called to share our time, talents and financial resources to further the mission of the church at the diocesan level.

The 187th Convention of the Diocese of Kentucky will be hosted by Trinity Church, Owensboro, and will be held November 7-8, 2014. At this convention, delegates will elect members to a variety of diocesan positions. As the nominating committee chairperson, I ask that every layperson and member of the clergy of our diocese prayerfully consider the time and talents that he/she can offer in support of the work of the Church, and be willing to be nominated for election to one of these positions.

A list of positions to be filled at the next diocesan convention can be downloaded here. The list includes qualifications for the various positions, continuing members and members whose terms will expire this year. A one-page Nomination Form can also be download here. It is important that the individuals who are nominated have given their permission to be nominated. Please note that all lay nominees must be active members of one of the congregations in the Diocese of Kentucky. Priests in charge of congregations will be asked to verify membership. Nominees will be sent a biographical information sheet that they will be asked to complete and return.

Please return completed nomination forms to me by the September 15th deadline. Forms may be mailed, scanned and emailed (rosebogal@gmail.com), or faxed (270-753-2420). Nominations may be made after this date from the floor of the convention.

Dimensions of Faith series welcomes Becca Stevens and Marcus Hummon Oct. 17-18

By St. Matthew's, Louisville

Becca Stevens

Please join St. Matthew's Episcopal Church the weekend of Oct. 17-19 when  their Dimensions of Faith program presents Becca Stevens, founder and CEO of Nashville's Thistle Farms, and  husband, Grammy-winning songwriter Marcus Hummon.

The weekend's events begin Friday evening at 7pm with a concert with Marcus Hummon. On Saturday, Oct. 18, Becca Stevens will conduct a hands-on workshop from 10am to noon featuring Thistle Farms and Magdalene Community.   On Sunday, Becca will preach at the 10am service.

As an Episcopal priest at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Becca Stevens founded Magdalene in 1997, a residential community of women who have survived prostitution, trafficking and addiction. In 2001 Stevens began Magdalene's Thistle Farms business, which produces natural bath and body products handmade by the women. Purchases of Thistle Farms products and projects --  natural body care line, a paper and sewing studio and the Thistle Stop Café -- directly benefit the women of Magdalene.

A note from Canon Lewis about the conference:

I can't encourage you enough to personally attend this conference, and to encourage your parish leadership to attend either the 2.5-day, or 1-day Saturday conference.  Please, mark your calendars today and make plans to attend! I look forward to sharing this enriching time of continued formation with you and your parish leaders!

The cost to you and your parish has been greatly reduced as this event has been significantly underwritten by the generosity of St. Francis in the Fields, Harrods Creek. A special thank you to St. Francis' for their investment in the future of our diocese through offering opportunities for the continued formation of our parish leadership.
