We are excited to announce the return of the EpiscoBlast in addition to the Leadership Newsletter.
The EpiscoBlast will provide a way for ministries across the diocese to be raised up and for individual stories of faith to be shared. It will also serve as a place of information about congregation & diocesan sponsored events. Each publication will also include a personal message from either Bishop White, Canon Coultas, or Canon Lewis.
The EpiscoBlast will be published electronically on the first Friday of every month starting November 1st.
With the reintroduction of the EpiscoBlast into our regular publications, the Leadership Newsletter will also see some changes. The articles will concentrate on resources focused on congregational vitality, continuing education opportunities, updates on policies and canons, and calendar reminders to keep you on track. Each publication will also include a blog entry from Canon Jason Lewis's blog Life Giving Practices. Publications that occur after a Trustees & Council meeting will also include a copy of the minutes along reports from both Canons.
The Leadership Newsletter will be published electronically on the third Friday of every month starting November 15th.

Both of these publications are dependent on news, events, and information from throughout our diocese. If you have anything you'd like to be included in our next publication, please email bkinnaman@episcopalky.org the information by the Tuesday before publication.

All Saints seeks new General Manager and Director of Marketing & Business Development
All Saints Episcopal Center is a Christian camp and retreat center located in a rural setting on Rough River near Leitchfield, Grayson County, Kentucky. It can accommodate groups of 20 to 134 persons of all ages, and provide for all meals and lodging. All Saints Center is available year round for camp programs, youth and adult retreats, conferences, and parish weekends and offers meeting space for many types of gatherings.
General Manager
The role of the General Manager is to manage and administer the day-to-day and long-term operations of All Saints Center.
Director of Marketing and Business Development
The role of the Director of Marketing and Business Development is to plan, direct, and execute short and long term income producing strategies for All Saints Center. This job includes overall responsibility for the income stream of All Saints Center.

Canon kicks of new blog
Greetings in Christ! I've just started up a new blog in connection with my new work as your Canon for Congregational Vitality. It is called, "Life Giving Practice." Here I will write reflections on the many places I see the Life of the Spirit active and present in my daily work and world, and my many interactions with you around the Diocese in your parishes and ministry settings. I'd love for you to go and check it out and tell me what you think in the comments within the blog. And if you have a blog that you'd like to share with me (one that you write or love to follow), please, don't hesitate to email or message it to me. I'd love to read it!

Mark Linder resigns as Transition Officer
After several years of faithful service, the Rev. Mark Linder has resigned his position as Transition Officer of the diocese. As of October 1, he has handed over that work to the Canon to the Ordinary. We are very thankful for Fr. Linder's dedication, especially since his original appointment was to be for just a few months! Mark will continue his work as a consultant to churches in clergy transition, working with them through the process of self-study and reflection as they prepare to call new ordained leadership.

Trustees & Council Update
At the October 3rd meeting of Trustees & Council, the board convened at St. Alban's, Louisville to approve the proposed budget for Diocesan Convention, accept the Diocesan audit, hear an update on the workshops and plans for Diocesan Convention, and much more. The board also gave thanks for the service of its retiring class of 2013 including:

| Do you want to help with the Diocesan website redesign?
 The Office of Communications is searching for a few good folks to help participate in a short assignment to reconfigure the website navigation. The assignment is known as card sorting, and it basically helps designers organize navigation in the most efficient way possible. It makes sure that the navigation is user focused and not based off of the diocesan organizational structure. If you'd like to participate, please email bkinnaman@episcopalky.org, so we can set up a date and time to run the experiment. Participants outside of Louisville will be sent the cards in the mail with instructions on how to run assignment. Exciting new videos present the mission and work of Episcopal Church Young Adult Service Corps

[September 19, 2013] The mission, ministry, and impact that the Episcopal Church Young Adult Service Corps (YASC) volunteers have on a local community somewhere in the world are told in visually-exciting videos available here
YASC is a ministry for Episcopal young adults, ages 21 - 30, who are interested in exploring their faith in new ways by living and serving in communities around the Anglican Communion.
Three videos, each about four minutes long, relay the stimulating real-life experiences of YASC volunteers currently on assignment in Hong Kong, the Philippines and South Africa. The videos are: Church Leaders talk about YASC; YASC - what kind of work do they do?; and What's it like to be in YASC?.
"The ministry of the young adults is told through interviews with YASC volunteers and their church leader hosts," noted the Rev. David Copley, Mission Personnel Officer. "The videos demonstrate the adventure, spiritual transformation, hands-on work, and positive impact of the young adults serving around the world."
For the 2013-2014 term, 28 young adults from 24 Episcopal Church dioceses are serving as YASC missionaries in locales throughout the Anglican Communion.
YASC volunteers featured in the videos are:
- In South Africa: Jared Grant, Diocese of Western North Carolina; Holly Millburn, Dioceses of Lexington and New York; Stephen Smith, Diocese of California; and Cameron Spoor, Diocese of Texas.
- In Hong Kong: Grace Flint, Diocese of Kentucky

All Saints Day Offering
A message from the All Saints Center Board of Directors
Please publicize the annual offering to benefit All Saints Center on All Saints Sunday, November 3, 2012 with the bulletin inserts below. All Saints recommends pairing the bulletin insert with a verbal announcement during service. FOURTH ANNUAL ALL SAINTS OFFERING
On All Saints Sunday, November 3, the undesignated offering from every parish in the Diocese will go to All Saints Camp and Conference Center. If you put your regular pledge (cash in a marked envelope or check with "pledge" in the memo line) in the collection plate, the money will go to This Parish but if you give cash or a check with "All Saints" in the memo line that money will help maintain All Saints Camp and Conference Center. Please read the special All Saints bulletin insert to learn more about the Center and its needs.
Every year All Saints serves hundreds of youth and adults as they attend summer camp, youth gatherings, and adult meetings and retreats. Many people also enjoy family time at All Saints for family get-aways, reunions, or weddings. The facility needs to be maintained and improved constantly and this annual appeal is just one way for us to help raise the funds needed to keep this beautiful Center functioning as the healthy heart of our Diocese.

"Financial Management for Episcopal Parishes" by James B Jordan available from Church Publishing
There are hundreds of books that tell "what" to do with church finance. This book is unique as a "how to" book for implementing good financial processes, policies, and best practices in a parish. Topics include: church canons and financial matters, roles and responsibilities, how to read church financial statements, audits, fraud, internal controls with process flows, taxes, budgets, and other items. Real world examples and experiences are throughout the chapters illustrating key points. Although written for Episcopal parishes, the messages are applicable to any denomination.
As a CPA, James Jordan has audited over 200 churches of various denominations. He has been a speaker to classes at Virginia Theological Seminary and the School of Theology at Sewanee, the University of the South, and teaches at Church Divinity School of the Pacific in the classroom and online. | St. Francis in the Fields ministry, Fishes and Loaves, earns Curtis Taylor a Bell Award

In 2000, the furthest thing from Curtis Taylor's mind was helping people with their problems. He had just been laid off and was parked beneath a downtown overpass feeling lonely and depressed.
But when Taylor caught a glimpse of a homeless man preparing to eat half of a hamburger foraged from a nearby trash can, Taylor immediately knew he would devote his life to feeding the hungry.
"I saw that, and I wanted to start challenging myself to help others," he said.
So Taylor, 45, who lives on Hasbrook Drive in south central Jefferson County, began collecting food, loading it into his van and distributing it to homeless people around Louisville.
Now, 13 years later, Taylor continues to help the needy through his ministry, Fishes and Loaves. For his efforts to help feed Louisville's hungry, Taylor was named a WLKY Bell Award winner.
Fishes and Loaves, a full-fledged food ministry that gets volunteers and donations from St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church in Harrods Creek, is filling the empty stomachs of hundreds of the city's poor and homeless each month.

Cathedral Evensong Series
Cathedral Arts of Christ Church Cathedral continues its Evensong series on Sunday, October 13, 5PM with a concert by Robert Nicholls, First Presbyterian Church, Evansville, IN. Playing the organ music of Johann Sebastian Bach, Dr. Nicholls will perform the Partita Christ, der du bist der helle Tag BWV 766 and concerto in C Major for two keyboards BWV 1061 assisted by Helen Skuggedal Reed. The second part will be played on the Kistenorgel by Gerhard Brunzema (1988) borrowed from First Presbyterian Church, Evansville, IN. The Cathedral Choir sings Evensong, featuring the Shaker Songs by Kevin Siegfried. These five pieces were inspired after Dr. Siegfried visited Shaker Village in Pleasant Hill, KY in 1997. Using various Shaker melodies, he created this five movement work joining the texts beautifully with the music. The Phos Hilaron is also by Dr. Siegfried, the canticles are by Charles Callahan (featured on the 2004 choir CD "Sacred Sound") and the responses are by Richard Shephard. Canon Dr. Robert L. Bozeman directs the Cathedral Choir, Neal Hayes is the assisting organist. The concert and service are free and open to all. A reception follows in the narthex. Documents required for seat at Convention
Diocesan Canons 4.6-7, 15.2, and 16.4 state that congregations within the Diocese must submit certain documents to the Diocese in order to be given seat and vote and Diocesan Convention. Those documents include:
- 2012 Parochial Report (Due Feb. 1)
- 2012 Audit (Due Sept. 1)
- 2014 Diocesan Commitment Pledge (Due Sept. 6)
- Secretary's Certificate of Deputation (Due Oct. 9)
We want to thank our congregations who have submitted all of their forms on time.
We also want to encourage our other congregations who have fallen behind schedule to turn in their documents as soon as possible.

Affordable Care Act and the Episcopal Church

Bishops conclude fall meeting with an eye on new possibilities
By: Episcopal News Service [Episcopal News Service] The House of Bishops ended its fall meeting Sept. 24 in Nashville, Tennessee, following six days focused on the theme "Transforming Loss into New Possibilities." "This has been a grace-filled meeting," said Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori during a telephone press conference after the meeting ended. The bishops looked at mission as going out into the community rather than as staying in "beautiful churches" waiting for people to come, she said. "There were challenges from and to the bishops to get engaged in communities." From the first day, said Bishop Todd Ousely of the Diocese of Eastern Michigan, the presentation "Missional Wisdom: Beginning Theologically" by Dr. Elaine Heath presented a challenge to the bishops. Heath is McCreless professor of evangelism at Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in Dallas and co-founder of the Missional Wisdom Foundation. "She talked about going into neighborhoods and engaging people where they are, where they live," he said during the press conference, adding that the challenge for bishops can go beyond neighborhoods and be applied to reengaging ecumenical partners and other bishops. Throughout the meeting, the 148 bishops attending heard presentations on innovative ways of doing mission, the new Diocesan Partnership Program and the work of the Task Force to Reimagine the Episcopal Church.
