Revised version of the Diocesan Directory is now available

Many people have requested an updated version of the Diocesan Directory. After much time spent overhauling the database and verifying up-to-date contact information, it's finally available! You can download a copy here.

It's also been added to the Diocesan website under Resources for Congregations & Vestries, so you can always download the most recent version.

If you know of any edits or changes that need to be made, please email them to Brian Kinnaman.
Clergy changes within our diocese

With so many clergy continuing their discernment process, we've had quite a few changes. Listed below are some of the changes happening.

Christ Church Cathedral

The Rev. Mark A. Bourlakas has been called to be the sixth Bishop of the Diocese of Southwestern Virginia. His consecration will occur on July 20th. We wish him well in his discernment as he takes his place among the College of Bishops.

The Rev. Amy Coultas is serving as the Interim Dean of the Cathedral as they search for a 'permanent' Interim

St. Andrew's, Louisville

You'll recall that the Rev. Ben Maas was called to serve as Rector of St. James' Episcopal Church in Warrenton, VA.

The Rev. William Curtis Parker of Pennsylvania has answered the call to be interim rector. He will begin to celebrate the Eucharist with the families at St. Andrew's on  August 19.

St. Mark's, Louisville

The Rev. Charles Hawkins has answered God's call to serve the people of St. John's in Ocean Springs, MS. His last Sunday was June 16th. Please take a moment to wish his all the best on his journey.

St. Matthew's, Louisville

With the Rev. Lucinda Laird answering the call to be Dean of the American Cathedral in Paris the congregants of St. Matthew's have been looking for someone to fill her large heels.

The Rev. Tom Momberg answered their call and has been serving at St. Matthew's since Pentecost. We are glad to have him and his ministry among us!

St. Clements, Louisville

The Rev. Ben Sanders has completed an extended term as the principle supply priest at St. Clements. He will continue his work at the Church Home.

St. Clements has solidified supply for the rest of the summer and is continuing discernment.

2013 Journal of the Diocese of Kentucky is available online

The most recent edition of the Journal of the Diocese of Kentucky is available online for those who wish to download it or use it as a reference. It can be found on the Diocesan website under Resources for Governance

With a new version of the Journal out, don't forget to also update your copies of the Canons of the Diocese of Kentucky.
All Saints in need of a freezer

The staff of All Saints pride themselves in offering a ministry of hospitality to those who visit the center.  In true southern style, a key part of that ministry is the food. Unfortunately, with camp season on the horizon, one of the freezers has given up the ghost.

If your church or any member of your congregation has a freezer that could be donated as a replacement, it would be an incredible blessing to Tim, Paula, and the rest of the All Saints staff.  Please contact Matt Bradley at 270.227.9109 with any leads and he will follow up.
Our own Rev. Al Shands' new book is out!

Rounding the Circle Rounding the Circle by the Rev. Alfred Shands and edited by Keith L. Runyon
This inspiring collection of 65 essays, selected from over 400 by former Courier-Journal Book and Opinion Pages Editor Keith Runyon, offers a decade's worth of wisdom and insights shared by the Rev. Alfred R. Shands III with members of his "moving parish" - St. Clements "House Church" in Louisville, Kentucky. In these essays, Shands shares wisdom, observations and insights about faith, the arts, politics, current events and many other subjects, and reflects on the many challenges and wonders - both large and small, globally and in our own backyard - that the world offers. His rich and eclectic readings provide us "markers along the path" as
we journey along life's circular path to our personal center.

Home is where one starts from....
We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.

-T.S. Eliot, Four Quartets

Available at Carmichael's or from the publisher, Butler Books.

About the Author

Alfred R. Shands, III, has made a lifetime career of pastoring slightly offbeat venues in the Episcopal Church. In the 1950s, he wrote a small book about church renewal that was widely disseminated in England and the United States. In the 1960s, he was in Washington, D.C., where he founded an Episcopal church whose congregation spent its best years worshipping in Hogate's seafood restaurant. In the 1970s, he became producer of documentary films for WAVE-TV in Louisville, Kentucky, and won a Peabody Award. Over the past quarter-century, he has been a nationally known collector of contemporary art.  He retired a decade ago as vicar of St. John's Chapel, a summer congregation in Harbor Springs, Michigan, and only recently retired after more than 30 years as vicar of St. Clement's, a house church congregation in Louisville.

2014 Diocesan Budget

The Bishop announced at the 185th Diocesan Convention that work on the budget will begin far earlier. A target of July 1st for the publication of the first draft of a proposed budget was set. This move allows congregations more than one vestry or bishop's committee meeting to pray and discern your commitment.

In order to help show how this affects the diocesan budget process, the Communications Office has prepared the following resource: 2014 Budget Flowchart. This flowchart will be updated throughout the budgeting process with other key dates once the appropriate committee or Trustees & Council publishes them.

The key dates so far include:

Feb. 1 - Deadline for Parochial Reports

June 1 - Mission Funding Applications Deadline
June 1 - Deadline for Budget Requests
July 1 - Publication of the 1st Draft of the Proposed Budget
Sept. 1 - Congregational Audits Due
TBD - Deadline for Congregational Pledges
Nov. 8-9 - Approval of the 2014 Diocesan Budget at the 186th Diocesan Convention

All information about the budget will be available on the Resources for Church Finance and Management webpage.

Diocesan Budget Requests

The deadline for Diocesan Budget requests was June 1, 2013.

If you have not turned in your budget request yet, please do so ASAP. The requests will need to be submitted to Becky Meyer in the diocesan office.  You may submit your requests to her by email to beckym@episcopalky.org, fax at (502) 584-8123, or through regular mail at:

Attn: Becky Meyer

Diocese of Kentucky

425 S. 2nd Street, Suite 200

Louisville, KY 40202

If you are having difficulty with your request please contact Becky as soon as possible.

Parochial Reports

Parochial reports are sent to the parish offices in early January and are due to the Diocesan Office by February 1 and the national church by March 1. We thank the congregations that have already submitted their parochial reports and want to encourage all other congregations to submit theirs as soon as possible.

An updated list of who has turned in which pages of their Parochial Report can be found here. Please take a moment to make sure your congregation has submitted all 5 pages.

If they have not, you may find resources to complete the Parochial Report on the Diocesan website.
Audit season is coming up quickly

A friendly reminder that audit season is approaching. In accordance with Canon 15.2, two copies of the audit are due to the Diocesan Office, one to the attention of the Bishop and the other to the attention of the Diocesan Treasurer, by Sept. 1. The audit is also one of four documents (Parochial Report, audit, Diocesan pledge, and Certificate of Deputies) that are needed in order to be seated at Diocesan Convention.

On the Resources for Church Finance & Management page of the Diocesan website you can find audit resources and manuals including copies of all documents needed to file your audit with the Diocesan Office.
CONTINUING EDUCATION & LEADERSHIP TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES
Diocesan Stewardship Summit Documents Available

To all those who attended the 2013 Stewardship Summit with the Rev. Corky Carlisle, thank you! Along with many great teachings, he provided us with materials we could take back to our churches as we enrich our own stewardship programs. These resources are available on the Diocesan website along with a few others from sources across the Episcopal Church.
TENS Flourish in Faith Conference will be webcast this year!

There's still time to register for the 2013 Conference of The Episcopal Network for Stewardship (TENS) on July 12 and 13 at the Episcopal Commons of Utah in Salt Lake City, Diocese of Utah. Exploring stewardship as a response of faithfulness will be the major focus of the conference, centering on the theme Flourish in Faith. Through plenaries and sixteen workshop offerings, the conference is designed to offer congregational and diocesan stewardship teams the theological, scriptural and practical aspects of stewardship information and annual giving.

If traveling isn't possible for in-person attendance, participation from afar is being offered through live webcasting. For the first time in the organization's history, TENS will broadcast the opening worship, three plenary addresses, and four workshops over the two-day gathering.

Recognizing that travel is expensive, time is precious, and training can be as effective on the web as in-person, TENS is committed to increasing the scale of our conference via webcast so that congregations from Portland, Oregon to Portland, Maine, can take part.

John Vernon Oaks, stewardship officer in The Episcopal Diocese of Indianapolis is organizing viewing location sites by deanery as is his colleague in East Tennessee, Vermont and many other dioceses.

The webcast fee is $75.00 per site or per computer. A link to access the webcast will be mailed twenty-four hours prior to the conference. Webcast viewers will be able to interact and ask questions through a designated email and text address. The webcast will be available on Mountain Daylight Time and not available for re-broadcast.

Webcast Includes:
