News from the Chiang Rai Village Project

The Health Post Project in the Village of Huay Kuk has been recently completed. The Buitelaar Health Post was made possible thanks to the generous contributions of the Buitelaar family, the Tan Chin Tuan Foundation, and Bruno Proto and Maria Cristina Corcione together with the Continuing Education University of Trento.

Huay Kuk Buitelaar Health Post

The Health Post will serve 872 hill-tribe people, of which 500 from the village of Huay Kuk where the Foundation has already built a primary school, kitchen, canteen, sanitation facilities, kindergarten, teacher accommodations and dormitory. The Post will have two full time permanent nursing staff supplied by the District Hospital, which is 15 km away. The nurses will be responsible for visiting patients, conducting health screenings, distributing free of charge basic medication, coordinating the medical visits by doctors from the District Hospital, referring when needed patients to the District Hospital, and keeping a medical record of village patients. The Project was realized in partnership with the local authorities to improve the health conditions of villagers, following Princess Chari Sirindhorn of Thailand visit to the village last year.

From our Beneficiaries

Thida is 16 years old and attending her second year of Accounting at the Business School of our Cambodian partner NGO Pour Un Sourire d'Enfant.  When she finishes her five-year studies, she will have a Bachelor's equivalent.
Thida and her brother in their home
She lives with her brother and mother; her father left the family a few years back. The mother works all day at a textile factory and earns 130 $ a month. They rent one room at the second floor of worn out building in a poor neighborhood. They pay 50 $ a month for rent and 28$ for electricity and water.  As part of the scholarship Program, Thida's family receives a ratio of rice each month.
Thida in school
They sleep and cook in the same room. There is a small bathroom where Thida washes clothes.  Thida is a very good student and looks forward to finishing Business Studies so she can start working to help her family.
