Dear Friends,
our highlights from recent months include the graduation ceremony in Azrou Morocco, graced by the presence of Moroccan Minister of Education Rachid Belmoukhtar, and the visit of the newly opened school by Elena Pistorio and volunteer Francesca Ferrari with Country Manager Mohamed Lasry; the appointment of Marzena Hugues as President of the Singapore Chapter and the fabulous The Silver Tribute Ballet Concert in Singapore.
News from the "Back to School" Project in Morocco

On June 25th Elena Pistorio and volunteer Francesca Ferrari visited the newly completed school building that holds the Foundation's 40 beneficiaries enrolled in the Official Non Formal Education Program at the Azrou Center for Community Development.

The school building consists of two vocational training workshops, two classrooms, library, computer room, and canteen and kitchen.
The School was
funded by the Foundation along with
a number of local
partners.

The NFE Program was rolled out in Morocco several years ago by the Ministry of Education to counter the growing and alarming rates of school drop outs. The Pistorio Foundation collaborates with and supports the NFE Program of the Azrou Center benefitting 40 underprivileged children.

The aim is to reinsert these children into the public school systems empowered by a two year NFE program that will allow them to catch up with the school curriculum.
Most of these students had been out of school for several years prior to joining our Center.
Elena, Francesca, and Country Manager Mohamed Lasry met with students, teachers, and families of students.

The school visit was followed by a Graduation Ceremony for those completing the NFE Program and Azrou's Vocational Training Programs held at the Azrou Center.
Education Minister Mr. Rachid Belmokhtar  graced the event with his presence, as well as Professors from the Al Akhawayn University, and Azrou Center director Malika Benbella.
To date, the program has had a resounding success: since its launch in 2010, 36 students have been reinserted in the public school system - 4 in Primary, 6 in Secondary, 26 in Professional School.
Of these, 10 have completed Professional School.
The Foundation enrolls new beneficiaries in need as former students complete the program and join the public school system.

News from Singapore Chapter
Meet our new Singapore Chapter President

We are very excited to introduce Marzena Hugues, our newly appointed Singapore Chapter President, who will be spearheading the Chapter's activities as of September.  Marzena was born and raised in Poland but has been calling Singapore home for the last 8 years. She received a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from Carroll University, US and a Master of Arts in Contemporary European Studies from  University of Sussex, UK. Marzena's previous work experience includes postings at Human Rights Watch, UNIFEM, and the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Singapore.  Marzena has always been interested in pursuing a career that would involve social change and humanitarian work. She firmly believes that providing quality education for all is not only a question of human rights but it is the only way out of poverty.

The Silver Tribute, 25th Anniversary Concerty by Palais Dance Studio

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Ms. Eng Ai Tan and Ms. Teo Ching Ching, Directors of Palais Dance Studio, for choosing the Pistorio Foundation to be the beneficiary of the school's 25th Anniversary Concert.
"The Silver Tribute" was held on the 6 th and 7th of June and was a great success artistically and financially. The impressive amount of S$ 20,552 raised that evening will go towards supporting the Foundation' s work in Chiang Rai and education of underprivileged hill-tribe minority children.
