AC Mission Offering: Children in Poverty

We're doing so well we can't stop now! This year's Annual Conference Missions Offering  will once again support Ministry with Children in Poverty in Holston Conference. Countless hours of service and outreach, in addition to $197,000 in grants, have been shared to develop relationships with the young lives in our midst to bring new hope and possibility for their future. Thank you, Holston, for assuring that poverty does not have the last word for the children in our communities.

In additional to our $10 per member and 10 hours of service, this year we are asking each local church to send one of eight selected children's  books  with every lay and clergy member to Annual Conference on June 5-8. These books will be collected and made available for local churches to take home and share as an opening gift to begin a school partnership with their neighborhood schools. Download a bulletin insert.

Learn more about our congregation's 2016 mission offering gifts of $10 and 10 hours per worship attendance and the book collection at  waytogiveholston.org.

Stay Focused On Our Mission

Jesus Christ our Lord gave us our mission. In The United Methodist Church we state it this way: "Make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world." It is a constant challenge to stay focused on that mission.
There is much in our lives and our world that would seek to distract us. Some things are worthy of our attention. Some are not. Some things require our attention, such as caring for children or parents or others we love or giving our time and effort to our job.
As United Methodists, we will continue to pray for, watch and listen to the proceedings of General Conference the next two weeks. We are preparing for Annual Conference next month in several ways. Jurisdictional Conference and the election of bishops follow in July.
For many, this is the time of graduation from school at some level. For all in this country, presidential campaigns continue as a regular topic of discussion and speculation.
What is it that is going on in your life that may or may not be important? Whatever it is for any of us, it does not remove us from our call to our mission. If we really believe (and have experienced) that having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ is life-transforming, then we will be ever vigilant in seeking opportunities to help other people come to know him and to grow in their relationship with him.
The key is maintaining that daily relationship with the Holy Spirit who is God. Pray constantly. Meditate on the Scripture. Be silent and listen. Seek God's will and direction, then follow that. Stay focused brothers and sisters!

Love, Grace & Peace,
Nathan

Golf the
Wesley House Way

Our 12th annual Wesley House Golf Tournament is coming up on Saturday June 11. I am hoping that you will consider helping us by being a hole sponsor and/or finding some golfers who would like to join us at Egwani Farms golf course. We have a fun time and this year Tim Priest, UT football color analyst, will be there to help make the day even more enjoyable.
An event like this helps to provide the funding that is needed to identify and build on the strengths of individuals and families to create a stronger community. With your help we can continue to empower and strengthen our community by providing academic, emotional and spiritual support to all who come to Wesley House.
We need hole sponsors, players, door prizes and items for our goodie bags (120). If you would like to be involved you can contact Ryan (ryan@wesleyhouse.com) or Tim (tim@wesleyhouse.com) or call either of us at 865-524-5494. You can also download Hole Sponsor forms or Player registration forms from our website at www.wesleyhouse.com/events.
The more help we get, the more people we can help! Please join us.
