Chamber Vehicle Over the past several months, due to mechanical issues with the 2006 Nissan Armada, I have been shopping, locally of course, for a new vehicle for the Chamber of Commerce. In an effort to get a vehicle that fit all the Chamber's needs, I pestered the Sales Managers at Victory Nissan, Alexander Chevrolet and Beaman Ford non-stop. We are all definitely on a first name basis by now. You've seen and heard of the stereotypes of car dealerships; pushy, only looking out for themselves and their bottom line, but I can honestly say that ALL the local dealerships treated me with the utmost respect, gave me all the time I needed and were sincere in their efforts to find "THE" Chamber vehicle. A big "thank you" goes out to Victory Nissan, Alexander Chevrolet and Beaman Ford. In the end, the Dickson County Chamber of Commerce purchased a 2014 Ford Flex from Beaman Ford with the help of David Faulkner. So, why the Ford Flex? One must remember that in addition to using the vehicle for Chamber functions, the Chamber also acts as the economic development organization for Dickson County, so, on occasion; we must be able to fit quite a few people in a vehicle for community tours. For events, we also need to carry quite a bit of equipment while also transporting people. Here at the Chamber office, we've been discussing wrapping the vehicle with our logo, web site address, etc. In other words, the vehicle will become a mobile 24/7 billboard for Dickson County and the Dickson County Chamber of Commerce. Most jobs in today's economy require technical skills. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics shows more than 50% of today's jobs require some degree of technology skills, and experts say that percentage will increase to 77% in the next decade. These requirements as well as the Governor's Drive to 55 mission are requiring the Dickson County Adult Education program to concentrate on graduating more adult students with the new HiSET exam and thus allowing the student to enter training and be workforce ready.
Pictured are Dana Ramsey, Education Edge Coordinator, Phyllis Bradley, adult education supervisor for the Dickson County Board of Education, and Steve Sherer, current Chairman of Dickson County Chamber of Commerce . Dickson County Chamber of Commerce donated $ 500 to the Dickson County Adult Literacy Council to use for HiSET scholarships for students to pay their testing fees. Other agencies, industries, and individuals are encouraged to sponsor student testing fees. The majority of the industries in Dickson County require a high school diploma making this a positive investment for our workforce. For more information, call the adult education office at (615) 446-2114. All donations are tax deductible.
