3 Yankton Businesses Turn Away Money - why? bills_coins.jpg

Last week we had a consumer call who received Chamber Dollars from their employers.  They went to three businesses to spend them and at each, the person ringing them up said they would not take them.

The Chamber of Commerce sells over $200,000 annually in Chamber Dollars to employers and consumers who want to keep the spending local yet we have businesses who do not thoroughly train all employees on the process of handling them.  $9,000 alone will be circulating shortly from the Shop Local Fundraising winners announced in this newsletter. On November 29 we will be handing out another $4,000 to holiday shoppers.

By not training your employees, businesses are turning away sales as well as leaving a bad taste in the mouth of the consumers we are trying to educate about the importance of shopping local.  Every business should have this process sheet located on or near their registers to remind employees how to process Chamber Dollars.    We know it's hard to stay on top of everything you have going on in your business but this one is costing you sales and good will by not keeping all employees informed.

Please review with your staff and post where everyone can reference.  For more information, call the Chamber at 665-3636.

Memorial Park Fountain/Flower Box Project

Keep Yankton Beautiful recently updated the Chamber on the progress of their Memorial Park Project.  Here is what they had to say!

"Our planter box is completed and it's gorgeous! The two memorial benches are on order and should be arriving soon. Thanks go to all of the individual donors that have made this beautiful memorial possible. Thanks go to the Otto Ulrich Trust for the funding to install the fountain, the City of Yankton for funding the water line redirection, the Myers family for helping us to fund the planter box, Slowey Construction, Inc. for moving the water line, Yankton City Parks & Rec for installing the fountain, Masonry Components for installing the textured concrete pad and the structure of the planter box, Brent Schrempp and crew for doing the beautiful stonework and Scott Luken for the touching, engraved memory stone for the center with Stacey's heart signature and Kirby's pawprints. What an amazing collaboration! Thank you, Yanktonites!"

Taxi Cab Confessions!
Julie from Excellent Cab called the CVB to share with us stories, quotes, thoughts that have been shared with them from visitors to Yankton. Here is some of what she shared:
  • Many are truly amazed about how clean our community is.
  • A gentleman from Florida who had been here working on the dam said "Yankton is like a pearl in the oyster that is America."
  • Yankton is so beautiful. There is so much here to see and do. She compared us to a nut, you don't know what all you are getting until you crack it open and see all it has to offer.
  • She also received many compliments on how nice everyone in our community is and how hospitable we are.

Keep up the great work Yankton! Our efforts on providing a clean, fun, friendly community is showing!

Yankton listed as one of the 10 Most Exciting Cities in South Dakota!

Listed as 6th on the List, here is what Movoto had to say!

"No, we're not yanking your chain; Yankton really did come in sixth on our list, and after looking at these numbers, it's no wonder why. It had the fourth most active life options per capita-that's gyms, rec centers, yoga studios, and even Karttrax Go-Kart and Family Fun Park where you can ride around in go-karts!..."
