Making It Better has partnered with HISD, Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation, Children's Museum Houston, and Neuhaus Education Center to launch HISD's Read Houston Read program.  HISD is currently recruiting volunteers, people just like YOU, to read to a first grade student for 30 minutes a week throughout the school year. Reading aloud to children is widely recognized as the single most important activity leading to literacy acquisition.  Sadly, too many children, right here in Houston, lack the gift of an adult who is willing or able to read to them on a consistent basis.

Help spread the word and consider becoming a Read Houston Read mentor today! We are excited that 4 of the participating schools are also served by Makint It Better's Literacy Program (Ashford, McGowen, Piney Point and Walnut Bend)! We'd love for you to volunteer at one of those campuses but, with 36 other schools to choose from as well, there is sure to be one in YOUR area.
