Designer Amy Kolling uses a horizontal cutting plate to create a vertical graphic masterpiece!

At Taylored Expressions, we love to learn new techniques, polish up on old favorites, and be inspired by the creativity of designers from around the crafting world.
Today we have a tutorial from designer Amy Kolling,
who shares how to 'turn' a popular cutting plate to your advantage!

Check out Amy's step-by-step tutorial on how to create a graphically beautiful vertical card using our Triangles Cutting Plate:

A Note from Amy: I wanted to use the Triangles Cutting Plate for a fun card using an ombre watercolor technique. I usually make vertical cards, and I didn't let the fact that the Triangles Cutting Plate is oriented horizontally prevent me from creating the kind of card I wanted.

Steps 1-3: Die-cut one to two panels with the Triangles Cutting Plate using watercolor paper (TIP: use the Taylored Expressions Metal Shim for even pressure and precise cutting). Carefully remove each panel from the cutting plate and keep triangles in place. Tape to work surface with removable tape.

Steps 4-6: Using watercolor markers (such as ZIG Clean Color Real Brush Markers or Distress Markers) color a line on one side of each triangle. Next, use an AquaBrush to blend the colors out in an ombre effect. Repeat with all desired colors. Remove triangles from frame.

Steps 7-9: Trim a panel of white cardstock. Using the empty frame as a guide, adhere colored triangles with foam tape as desired. (Tip: hold the guide in place with removable tape). When the end of the guide is reached, reposition it lower using adhered triangles for easy reference.

Steps 10-12: Die-cut sentiment three times from black cardstock. Adhere each to one another to build dimension. Adhere to panel. Add gems. Adhere panel to cardbase.

We hope you are inspired to try making this colorful, graphic card!
