At Taylored Expressions, we love to learn new techniques, polish up on old favorites, and be inspired by the creativity of designers from around the crafting world. Today we have a tutorial from designer Julia Stainton, who shares how to easily create a woven ribbon background using a Taylored Expressions Cutting Plate.
Check out Julia's step-by-step tutorial on how to create a stunning woven ribbon background using our Loop-de-Loo Cutting Plate:
A Note from Julia: Cutting Plate Dies are amazing dies. They are fabulous for creating beautiful die-cut backgrounds, but if you think outside the box there are many different things you can use them for. Did you know you can weave ribbon through some of them? It gives a totally unique look and makes a wonderful technique to try. You can also vary this look by weaving cardstock or strips of felt through the design instead of the ribbon.
Step 1: Die cut the Loop-de-Loo Cutting Plate from Sugar Cube cardstock.
Step 2: Cut six 5-inch lengths of 5/8" wide ribbon. Steps 3-6: Weave ribbon carefully through the design as shown. Continue with all six strips of ribbon until design is complete. Trim excess ribbon with sharp scissors and adhere ribbon to back to cutting plate die cut. Cut a piece of Pumpkin cardstock to 4" x 5.25" in size. Adhere well to back to woven cutting plate layer. Adhere panel to 4.25" x 5.5" card base made from Sugar Cube cardstock using 3D Foam Squares. Step 7-8: Die cut two flowers from Carrot Felt using the Branches, Banner and Bloom die set. Die cut two branches from Peapod Cardstock and one branch from Sweet Basil Cardstock. Step 9: Adhere felt flowers and cardstock branches to card front. Step 10: Tie buttons with Hemp Twine and adhere to center of flowers. We hope you are inspired to try making your own woven ribbon backgrounds with Julia's easy steps.
