Designer Amy Sheffer shares simple steps to create stunning backgrounds using stamps and dies!

At Taylored Expressions, we love to learn new techniques, polish up on old favorites, and be inspired by the creativity of designers from around the crafting world.
Today we have a tutorial from designer Amy Sheffer,
who shares a terrific idea that will help you get more mileage from your patterned Cutting Plates.

Check out Amy's step-by-step tutorial on how to easily create eye-catching ink and die-cut backgrounds using patterned Cutting Plates as shown in the above tag:

Step 1:Choose a cutting plate that has a uniform pattern and lots of open space. Amy chose the Hexagon Cutting Plate. Other Cutting Plates that would work well include: Circles, Hearts, Quatrefoil, Spotted, and Triangles.

Step 2: Use cutting plate to die-cut acetate (vellum would also work - you want something thin, yet sturdy).

Step 3: Adhere stencil to a white card stock panel and sponge on Distress inks. Amy used Tumbled Glass and Mowed Lawn.

Step 4: With stencil still in place, stamp an image over the sponging. Amy used the music score image from the Of Thee I Sing stamp set.

Step 5: Remove stencil to reveal background pattern.

Step 6: Use the same cutting plate to die-cut a panel of card stock. Off-set it slightly before adhering to the sponged panel in order to reveal the white, negative edge.

Step 7: Optional: Add a second cutting plate die-cut and off-set in the opposite direction. Don't be afraid to play around with placement to see what different patterns you can create!

Step 8: Die-cut layers into a tag shape. Amy used a Tag Stacklets 2 die. Add Tag Reinforcements die-cut. Layer and embellish as desired.

Amy finished off her gorgeous tag with some very elegant sponged and die-cut butterflies.

We hope you are inspired to try making your own stamped and die-cut patterned backgrounds with Amy's easy steps.
