At Taylored Expressions, we love to learn new techniques, polish up on old favorites, and be inspired by the creativity of designers from around the crafting world.
Today we have a tutorial from designer Amy Kolling, who shares
how easy it is to watercolor using Distress Inks!

A note from Amy: Distress Inks are so easy to work with. No formal training is required to achieve results that are truly unique and hand-made.

Amy's project features the stamp set, Happily Ever After

To watercolor, you will need stamps, Distress Ink, VersaMark ink, watercolor paper, waterbrush, paintbrush, water, embossing powder and a craft sheet. Stamp image using VersaMark on watercolor paper. Heat emboss with white embossing powder.

Press the Distress Ink pad face down on your craft sheet (tip: you may also use a non-stick oven liner; tan color works best). Using a paintbrush, add water to the ink. "Pick up" wet ink with a waterbrush and loosely paint over embossed images. Repeat for each color.

Using waterbrush, add detail by picking up more color and painting, as seen on the left, above.

To assemble the card, fussy cut around each flower. (Tip: spritz water on the back of each colored image for easier trimming.)

Layer flowers onto panel. Add foliage. (Amy used the die set Branches, Banner, & Bloom.)

Stamp sentiment. (Amy used our In & Out Birthday for her project.)

Finish off with small details like sequins or glitter.

We hope you are inspired to try out watercoloring with Distress Inks.
