At Taylored Expressions, we love to learn new techniques, polish up on old favorites, and be inspired by the creativity of designers from around the crafting world.
Today we have a fun tutorial from
Taylored Expressions Blog team member,
Kay Miller, who shares how to create depth of field in a stamped scene!
Kay created a cheerful, wintery scene using our Woodland Winter stamp set and Woodland Winter Dies, coordinating Trim the Tree die, and Build-a-Scene Rolling Hills die set.
Begin by sponging a sky on white card panel with Distress Ink.
Die-cut a rolling hill from white cardstock and adhere over sky with glue.
Stamp, color, and die-cut tree and adhere with glue.
To create distance, trim a sheet of vellum to the same size as card panel and adhere using vellum adhesive.
Stamp sentiment on die-cut rolling hill and adhere with foam tape.
Stamp an additional tree and color.
To quickly add depth and shading, use alcohol-based markers such as Copics. Select two shades of green. Using the lighter shade and a quick flick of the brush tip, add color taking care to not color to the very edge of each tree section.
(This will add an illusion of snow on the ends of the tree branches.)
Next, using the darker shade and beginning at the top of each tree section, add shading.
Position tree just behind snowy hill and adhere with foam tape.

Stamp, color, and die-cut deer. Adhere with foam tape.
Stamp, color, and trim presents. Position in front of tree and adhere with foam tape.
Adhere the entire panel to a white card base.
We hope you've been inspired to create a cozy little winter scene like Kay's!
