Fox Lane and Byram Hills still alive After a lop-sided 66-32 win over Hendrick Hudson (25 seed), Byram Hills (8) won a 38-37 squeaker against 24-seed Sleepy Hollow. They'll give up the home court advantage to travel to Class A top- seed Eastchester (16-2 regular season) where they will try to slow the game down to contain the high-scoring, 3-point shot happy Eagles tonight at 7pm. Meanwhile in Class AA, 4-seed Fox Lane (16-2 regular season) will host 5-seed Mahopac (15-3) on Thursday 2/20: 6pm. Fox Lane won their first round game 59-47 over Clarkstown North (5-13). Fran Leibowitz at the Ridgefield Playhouse Fresh off her role in Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street, Fran Leibowitz sits for an on-stage interview followed by a sixty-minute audience Q&A. Improv comes to PAC In what may be the comedy event of the season, the Upright Citizens Brigade Touring Company brings their high wire act of improvisational comedy to the Performing Arts Center in Purchase. This power-house comedy troupe began performing in Chicago in 1990, opened their own theatre in Manhattan in 1996 and had their own series starring Amy Poehler on Comedy Central from 1998-2000. Kim Kashkashian at PAC Imagine the confusion backstage at the 2013 Grammy Awards when they announced that Kim Kashkashian had won the Grammy Award for Best Classical Music Instrumental Solo. The twitter-sphere was abuzz about the possibility of a typo. Can Kim Kardashian really play the viola? Though Kim and Kim share Armenian roots you won't be seeing the reality series star playing Brahms, Bartok, Vaughn Williams and Benjamin Britten in Purchase anytime soon. Defending the Cave Man This play by comedian Rob Becker addresses the war between the sexes with its own blend of stand-up comedy, lecture and therapy session. The Art of Video Games
This new exhibit at the Hudson River Museum is one of the first major exhibitions to explore the 40 year evolution of video games as an artistic medium. Organized by the Smithsonian American Art Museum, this exhibition presents a multi-media look at the art and artists who created over 80 games and game consoles over four decades. NCPL's Asian Film Series continues ...
Here's another pick from LIU Professor Valerie Franco that depicts intergenerational conflict within the changing social mores of an economically advancing Asia. In Shower, a light hearted comedy-drama from Zhang Yang circa 1999, a young businessman from the booming southern province of Shenzhen (where they shower) visits his ailing father who runs a traditional bathhouse (and serves as the local marriage counselor and social director) in the decaying Beijing neighborhood of his youth. Professor Franco knows how to pick them as this multi-award winner received a whopping 92% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Fri, 2/28: 7pm. (19 Whippoorwill Rd. Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead at the Emelin The Acting Company, founded by John Houseman and boasting such renowned alumni as Kevin Kline and Patty LuPone, present Sir Tom Stoppard's modern classic Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead. This comedic reworking of Hamlet, that follows two of the play's minor characters, won the Tony Award for Best Play in 1968 and was later turned into a feature film starring Gary Oldman and Tim Roth. Golden Dragon Acrobats Danny Chang and his Golden Dragon Acrobats have performed over 6,000 times over the past thirty years. Their Broadway debut in 2005 received 2 Drama Desk Award nominations. Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana at PAC "The hottest of hot dances ... sizzles." This New York dance company celebrated its 20th anniversary season with a performance at Manhattan's Joyce Theatre in June.
