Vision Trip to Pare Diocese in Tanzania

You are invited to visit our companion synod in Tanzania
Imani logo June 23-July 4, 2014, as we seek to deepen our relationship with the Pare Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania

Goals of the Vision Trip:
  • Be renewed and empowered in faith and commitment to Christ's mission by one another's witness to the Gospel.
  • Enhance and increase understanding about the work of the Companion Synod Ministry.
  • Increase individual understanding of the concept of accompaniment, especially for those who have not had the opportunity to visit the Pare Diocese.
WIYLDE: July 21-26, 2014

Wholly Iowa Youth Leadership Discipling Event (WIYLDE) is a ministry and leadership workshop for high school youth, grades 9-12, of ELCA congregations in Iowa held at Luther College in Decorah.

The workshop provides opportunities for young people to grow in their own faith and take tools back to their home congregations to provide leadership in the youth ministry program. Each participant will learn:

  • How to help plan and lead worship
  • How to lead a Bible study
  • Where to find youth ministry materials
  • How to help organize youth events
WIYLDE is supported by all three ELCA Iowa synods. If you know a high school student who would benefit from attending this workshop event, you can find more information on the synod website.

Call for Peace, Prayer in Ukraine

The Rev. Elizabeth A. Eaton, presiding bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), and Anglican, Episcopal and Lutheran leaders have issued a call to peace and prayer for Ukraine in a March 5 statement.

"We have watched with dismay, along with the rest of the world, as tensions rise and peace is jeopardized in Ukraine. Recent dangerous developments in the Crimean region of the country put the lives of many innocent people at risk, and threaten peace and security far beyond that region of the world," said the statement signed by Eaton; the Most Rev. Fred Hiltz, primate, Anglican Church of Canada; the Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori, presiding bishop and primate, The Episcopal Church; and the Rev. Susan Johnson, national bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada. Keep reading...

From a Cross, a Dazzling Light

ELCA Presiding Bishop Elizabeth A. Eaton says the
bishop eatonTransfiguration is a strange story-the mountain, the light, the appearance of Moses and Elijah, the utterly
confounded disciples, the voice of God. How do we make sense of it? In The Lutheran's March issue, Eaton confesses
that at one time she couldn't figure out the Transfiguration. Read her column, "From a cross, a dazzling light".
