Advent is a time for prayer and reflection as we recognize Christ's constant presence in our lives and hearts, and prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus. During this Advent Season verses, images, and videos will be posted on the Synod's Facebook and Twitter pages as part of an Advent Devotional series written by Ariel Williams, Rachel Slough and Rev. Meredith McGrath. Besure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter to receive the daily devotions and to post your own reflections on the daily text.

You can also follow ELCA Youth Des Moines on Twitter and receive their daily Advent devotions and photo challenge. Learn more...
Day of Prayer to End Hunger

Congregations throughout the ELCA are invited to join an international stream of prayers that will happen on Dec. 10. Pope Francis is calling on people around the world to pray on this day for an end to hunger. Please plan to pray - individually, in small groups, in community gatherings, at your church - on Dec. 10 at noon. Some congregations will also be praying during their worship services on Dec. 8. Read more...

God is calling us into the world - together.

Thousands of ELCA members and congregations know the joy of supporting a longer-term missionary or Young Adult in Global Mission. This month, ELCA Global Church Sponsorship is sending an invitation to the remaining congregations in our synod to consider creating a covenant relationship of prayer, mutual communication and financial support for them.
  • Randy and Carol Stubbs teach music at Makumira University College in Tanzania, your synod's international companion. Read their blog
