Upcoming Synod Assembly
Planning for the 2014 Southeastern Iowa Synod Assembly is well underway. We will gather under the theme "Led By the Spirit" at the Marriott Hotel and Convention Center, Coralville, Iowa from May 30 to June 1, 2014.
The 2014 assembly will include the election of the bishop. According to the constitution of this synod, "the bishop is elected to a term of six years and may be reelected."
Bishop Michael Burk was elected bishop of this synod in 2008. Bishop Burk shared with the Synod Council and with rostered leaders at the Fall Theological Conference that he is open to continuing this call and "would be privileged to serve a second term if elected."
Resources regarding the process that has been used in the past, and will be followed again in the 2014 election, will be available when registration opens for the assembly, no later than February 1, 2014. Resources will also be provided to help congregations with their weekend worship services in the absence of their pastor(s).
Please pray for the ongoing work of preparation and for all of us together, that we will be renewed in our efforts to carry out Christ's mission for the sake of the world.
Heather Miller
Vice President

Responding to Tornadoes in the Midwest
On November 17 at least 16 tornadoes struck parts of Illinois and Indiana. Lutheran Disaster Response is working with their partner affiliates on the ground, assessing the immediate and long-term needs of those affected by the tornadoes.
If you would like to assist with tornado recovery you can find volunteer and donation information on our website.

Advent Devotions
Advent is a time for prayer and reflection as we recognize Christ's constant presence in our lives and hearts, and prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus. During this Advent Season verses, images, and videos will be posted on the Synod's Facebook and Twitter pages as part of an Advent Devotional series written by Ariel Williams, Rachel Slough and Rev. Meredith McGrath. Be sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter to receive the daily devotions and to post your own reflections on the daily text. |

New ELCA Website
The ELCA has launched their new website last week. The new site is expected to offer better search tools, easier navigation, an extensive resource "library" and an interactive map to show where Lutherans are active in the world. It's also more user-friendly on mobile devices.
Some congregations and partners may have links to various information within the old site. Due to the nature of this redesign, you may find that you need to reestablish some of those links. If you have questions or need any special assistance, please contact the ELCA digital media manager, Philip Miller, 800.638.3522 ext 2565.
