Remember in Prayer

Pray for peace in the Middle East and lift up the ELCA Peace Not Walls campaign and its goal of a just peace in Palestine and Israel.

Give thanks to God for the life-saving changes that the ELCA Malaria Campaign has made in such places as Burure, Zimbabwe, where a member of the Burure Lutheran Parish says the treatment and prevention of malaria is much improved.

40 Days of Thanksgiving

Mt. Olivet At Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church in Perry, IA their altar - their Table has become the collection place and visual embodiment of our calling to feed hungry hearts. When we receive the Eucharist we are called by God to share food with others. We are called to be a community where everybody has a place at the table. In November members at Mt. Olivet celebrate "40 Days of Thanksgiving" by collecting food for the local food bank. Along with the offering, the children at Mt. Olivet present the food donations that were given that Sunday and place them at the foot of the altar. The space around the altar quickly began to fill up so Pastor Mark Holmes decided to turn the altar around to create a collection place for the food. "The inside of our altar has shelves that we are able to use to collect the food donations. We quickly ran out of space and the food is already spilling out onto the floor. It is a good problem to have." Mt. Olivet collected 438 food items for the local food bank last year, "I have no doubt we will exceed that number this year," said Pastor Holmes.
Responding to Typhoon Haiyan
typhoon
On November 8 one of the most powerful storms ever recorded, Super Typhoon Haiyan, crashed across the central islands of the Philippines. With winds of over 200 miles per hour and torrential rains, it has caused massive destruction, loss of lives and forced millions of people to flee their homes.

Your help is needed to make a difference in affected areas. Through partnerships and as a member of ACT Alliance, Lutheran Disaster Response is responding to the most urgent needs of food, water, clothing, shelter, sleeping material and medicine. Gifts designated to "Pacific Typhoon Response" will be used in full to help with immediate and long-term need.

Portico Plan Member Enrollment

Sponsored plan members have decisions to make about their 2014 benefits. Between now and November 22 plan members should visit myPortico.PorticoBenefits.org to report their decision to enroll in the plan recommended by their employer, choose an alternative plan, or waive Portico coverage. If your employer offers health coverage through Portico but you have health coverage through a spouse or other source, you still need to waive your employer-provided coverage.
Stewardship: Online Giving

As your congregation receives pledges and intents for 2014 and begins preparing 2014 budgets, now is a good time to consider online giving through Simply Giving, a service provided through Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Church offerings are easier for people to make-and easier for congregations to receive-through the Simply Giving Program.

Online giving allows for a steady and uninterrupted revenue, which provides greater financial stability and reduces administrative costs.Through Simply Giving, funds are automatically withdrawn directly from a checking, savings, debit or credit card account and deposited into your congregation's bank account. Learn more about Simply Giving...
