Ask the Bishop
ask the bishop
Q: How many miles do you drive a year as the bishop, and why?

A: I think I average about 32,000 work miles in a year.

Because so much of being bishop is a ministry of "presence," I spend a lot of time out of my office. Most of that time is spent with people within the congregations and ministry sites of this synod. Keep reading...

Finding Forever Families

LSI Logo

November is National Adoption Month, a time to raise awareness about the 101,000 children waiting to be adopted from foster care in the U.S. and the people who make a difference in their lives.

Through our shared ministry, you are helping LSI find families for these great kids! LSI is a partner agency in Iowa KidsNet, a statewide collaboration of agencies that recruits, trains, licenses and supports all of Iowa's families who foster children or adopt from foster care. Thank you for the impact you make for these children.

If you know someone who would be a great foster or adoptive parent, please encourage them to visit www.IowaKidsNet.com. To learn more about LSI, visit www.LSIowa.org.

2014 Mission Support Forms

God is calling us into the world to do God's work in Christ's name. It is your faithful support that makes this work possible. Your Mission Support offering makes it possible for synods and churchwide ministries to keep ongoing commitments to ministry partners near and far and to respond where needs are greatest. Mission Support is the lifeblood of the work that God does through the ELCA. In 2012, ELCA members gave $1.8 billion in regular offerings to support God's mission and ministry through the three expressions of the ELCA: Congregations, Synods, Churchwide Organization.

After November 1, congregation leaders will receive their 2014 Mission Support form. The form should be filled out and returned to the Synod Office between January 15-February 15, 2014. The form can also be filled out online by clicking here.
