Help Rebuild St. Paul Lutheran, Martensdale
Justin Thomsen, Chairperson of the Rebuilding Finance Task Force
In the small community of Martensdale Iowa, on the night of October 27th, 2011, a church fire completely destroyed our 108 year old building at 615 Iowa Avenue, Martensdale, IA. While the community and our congregation are small, we are mighty and we do great things. The St. Paul Lutheran Church stood as a community gathering and worship space as well as a foundation for the town. On Sunday May 5th, 2013 at 3:00 pm St. Paul Lutheran Church, hosted an official groundbreaking ceremony and we have begun to rebuild.
We have managed to finance a modest building plan which is to serve the purpose of worship, education, and as a gathering place for the community. We have the "bare bones", but nothing that makes a house a home.
Any help will be appreciated. Help us, so that we can help others in the Martensdale and surrounding communities. With faith, anything is possible. If you would like to know more about us or have questions you can find out more about our history and mission on our website and Facebook page or contact us by phone 515-326-0146 , email justin27ia@gmail.com or postal mail: St. Paul Lutheran Church ELCA PO Box 290 615 Iowa Avenue Martensdale, Iowa 50160.

25 Days of Prayer
How does it work?
For the 25 days leading up to the assembly, this church will be invited into prayer for the ELCA, for the voting members who will gather in Pittsburgh, and for thanksgiving for the past 25 years of this church's life and for the next 25 years and beyond.
The resources for prayer and study below are based on the readings for the 2013 Churchwide Assembly Bible studies that will occur Tuesday through Friday, Aug. 13-Aug. 16, of the assembly. The Bible studies offer members of the assembly an opportunity for communal conversation centered in God's written word. For more information about the Bible studies click here
These prayer resources are available for use by individuals, small groups or as a congregation-wide initiative.

An Evening with the Bishop Bishop Michael L. Burk
I invite you to join me for an evening of conversation and fellowship. These evenings are precious opportunities for enhancing the mission we share. In addition to sharing my thoughts and hopes for ministry, I look forward to listening to your own stories of life and ministry together in Christ. We will gather around the theme that flows out of our synod assembly, "When Hungry Hearts Find Bread."
I look forward to these opportunities to talk and dream about how our connections to one another in Christ can bring to expression a bold and hopeful witness to our communities and to the whole world.

A Lifestyle Dedicated to Stewardship
Inspired Giving Newsletter, Summer 2013
At age 31, Amanda Weinkauf admits that she started her estate planning a bit younger than usual. As a student at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, she says her theological training has taught her that the earlier one can get started the better.
Amanda's endowment fund designates funds for ELCA ministries with which she has had personal experiences including ELCA Fund for Leaders, ELCA World Hunger, Lutheran Disaster Response, and other global ministries of the ELCA. Her plan also includes gifts for her home congregation, Lutheran Church of the Cross in St. Petersburg, Fla., and her seminary, the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. Read More
