Art and Faith: Starting a Christian Arts Ministry

Pr. Gloria Dovre, Director for Evangelical Mission

Visual art is deeply rooted in faith, and has been since the beginning of creation. We are offering an event to bring together people who are interested in the connection between Christian art and Christ's mission.

You are invited to come - by yourself or with a team of up to four people from your congregation - to this day long workshop, Saturday, August 3, 2013. Do you need to be an "artist" to attend? No! Artists, pastors, administrators, church leaders, church volunteers - all who appreciate the arts are invited to this event.

Mosaic Invites You to Discover the Possibilities
Kathryn Graen, Mosaic Des Moines Public Relations Specialist

With 100 years of experience, Mosaic knows that every life is full of possibilities. Our mission is to help people with intellectual disabilities experience a wonderful life. You can help - and discover new possibilities for your life, too.

As we look back to 1913, when our legacy organizations, Martin Luther Homes and Bethphage began, we know that much has changed over 100 years, but at the very heart - our mission - has changed very little. Both of the legacy organizations were founded by Lutheran Pastors and community lay people. We continue our focus on the mission our founders had - to advocate and provide opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities. In honor of our centennial milestone, Mosaic invites church members to attend a free, one-hour event called Discover the Possibilities to learn about the people with intellectual disabilities whom we are blessed to support.

Of Newsletters and Congregations
Janelle Bidne, Coordinator of Communications

Over the past four and half years, I've had the joy of reading newsletters from congregations across the synod.  Whether they arrived from the post office, in my e-mail, or posted on the congregation's website monthly; each newsletter was an opportunity to connect with a congregation and share in their celebrations and challenges.  One of the many delights I found in reading newsletters was finding out the variety of ways congregations expressed their faith and God's love.  Here is a small sampling of what congregations have shared in their newsletters.
