The Church Bell Will Ring Again in Martensdale

"This day is a sign as this ground is broken and we think about the next era of this congregation. We give thanks that God, in Jesus Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit, is with us today as has always been, and will be with us in the future."

Bishop Michael Burk for the Southeastern Iowa Synod, spoke these words as he greeted the members of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the community of Martensdale at the groundbreaking for a new worship and ministry center on Sunday, May 5. The church facility of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Martensdale, Iowa was consumed by fire on October 27, 2011. The building and its contents were a total loss.

Videos for Churchwide Assembly
ELCA Marketing Communications

The ELCA Marketing Communications team invites congregations to submit short videos that allow them to showcase your ministries in living out the 25th anniversary theme of "Always being made new". Some of the videos will be shown during the churchwide assembly in August, while others will be available on the ELCA YouTube channel and on Living Lutheran.

These videos should be 60-90 seconds long. Congregations should share what the theme "Deeply rooted in faith, and always being made new" means to them and how they live that statement in their continuing work. You can also consider the following questions:
*    In a rapidly changing culture, where is God leading and calling us as the ELCA?
*    Where are we "showing up" as a church in your community?

The team must receive all videos completed and available for posting by June 30, sent directly to Janice Rizzo at janice.rizzo@elca.org.

ELCA News

"God's work. Our hands." Sunday is an opportunity to celebrate our 25th anniversary as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America - one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor.

We are a church that rolls up our sleeves and gets to work. On Sept., 8, 2013, let's join together as 4 million members, nearly 10,000 congregations, 65 synods and the churchwide expression for a dedicated day of service.

In Good Company: Stories of Biblical Women at Grand View University, Des Moines
August 17, 2013 @ 9:00 am

Bible study author Kay Ward, a bishop in The Moravian Church, has invited nine women from the Old Testament, several from the New Testament, and a handful of women she knows to stop in for a visit. Their stories will draw us into Bible study, worship with the Psalms, and opportunities to tell our own stories.
