Celebration Banquet & Program: May 31st ELCA Pastor David Beckmann, CEO Bread for the World Keynote Speaker
The elimination of hunger is a priority for this synod. Our upcoming synod assembly which will gather under the theme, "When Hungry Hearts Find Bread", provides us the rich opportunity to learn and share about the many ways that we work together to eliminate hunger both here and abroad.
A portion of the assembly is open to all people from congregations in the Southeastern Iowa Synod, and will focus on our shared work in Hunger Ministry. Space is abundant and we hope that you will consider sending a core group of hunger advocates from your congregation.

Synod Staff Reconfiguration
Among the many things to expect at the upcoming 2013 Southeastern Iowa Synod Assembly is a report regarding the reconfiguration of the staff in the Office of the Bishop. The changes are designed to enhance our communications efforts, toward the goal of strengthening our partnerships within and beyond the synod, for the sake of our shared mission.
The creation of a new position (click here to view the position description) will coincide with the elimination of two positions that are currently held by Pastor Julie Higgs, Assistant to the Bishop and Janelle Bidne, Coordinator of Communications. A full report about the reconfiguration will be available in June, including descriptions of how the varied synod responsibilities are assigned. We will also invite you to join us in offering thanks to Julie and Janelle for their faithful service on our behalf.

The ELCA was engaged in a cooperative domestic disaster ministry with The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod; this joint ministry was known as Lutheran Disaster Response. When The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod decided to end its participation in this work, Lutheran Disaster Response became a ministry solely of the ELCA. Because of this change, all of the ELCA's disaster work, both in the United States and around the world, will now be known as Lutheran Disaster Response. Read More |
