ELCA to Commemorate 25 Years with Day of Service
Pastor Eric Carlson, Assistant to the Bishop
In celebration of its 25th anniversary, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America has designated Sunday, September 8, 2013, to be a Day of Service. If September 8 doesn't work for your congregation, you are encouraged to celebrate this day on any date(s) throughout the summer and fall. In serving the neighbor in Jesus' name, we are always being made new.
After April 15, more information and resources will become available. The resources will include bulletin inserts and flyers to let people in congregations know about the event and a downloadable toolkit designed to help plan for the dedicated day of service.
For more information about the ELCA's 25th anniversary, and to watch for more details on the Day of Service, go to www.ELCA.org/25years

Join Christian Advocates: Speak Out for Strong Food & Farm Policy ELCA e-Advocacy Network
Hundreds of Christian advocates participated in Ecumenical Advocacy Days last week on Capitol Hill and urged lawmakers to adopt strong food and farm policy. You too can reach out to your members of Congress today. Join other Christians in encouraging our leaders to enact a multi-year farm bill that alleviates hunger and malnutrition, supports vibrant farms and healthy communities, and protects God's creation. Click here to write your Senators and Representative now or click here to call (and look for talking points).
Our nation's food and farm policies, as embodied in the farm bill, affect people from rural America to inner cities, from our local communities to less industrialized regions around the world. A good farm bill can strengthen nutrition programs, help our struggling rural communities, support new and socially disadvantaged farmers, enhance global food aid to the world's most impoverished, and encourage farming and ranching practices that protect creation. Congress failed to pass a farm bill in 2012, and a number of important programs that promote a just and healthy food system are currently without funding. Other programs are continuing, but need the certainty provided by a multi-year farm bill.
Our elected officials need to hear from you. Join hundreds of other Christians today by urging Congress to pass a multi-year reauthorization of the farm bill that fights hunger, supports vibrant communities, and protects God's creation.
Act now: click here to write to your officials; click here to call Congress.
