2013 Domestic Hunger Grants Awarded
Pr. Paul Ostrem, Assistant to the Bishop
Each year, a portion of funds received through the ELCA World Hunger Appeal is set aside and used to fight domestic hunger. Some of this work is done through the awarding of Domestic Hunger Grants to ministries and partnerships in the various synods of this church engaged in hunger and poverty work. The Commission for Church in Society reviews these grant applications with the final decision for these awards being made by ELCA Churchwide staff. For 2013, four grants totaling $9,500 were awarded to ministries within the territory of the synod.

Practice Discipleship Webinar: Working Together in Solidarity
Presenter: Rozella White Sunday, February 17, 3:00 pm CST
Pr. Eric Carlson, Assistant to the Bishop The ministry of accompaniment is the sacred act of being in authentic relationship with others. The purpose of this ministry is to allow individuals, groups and organizations to grow in love and compassion towards each other. Accompaniment calls congregations to listen deeply to their contexts in order to discern how best to walk alongside the community. This accompaniment provides a reciprocal relationship of giving and serving that builds the bond between the community and the congregation. This way of being in relationship calls the congregation to take the needs and the wisdom of its context seriously. Click here to register. This webinar is one of several opportunities to engage in the Practice Discipleship Initiative, whose goal is to provide training resources for congregations in their faith formation work with young people.. Food and Farm Policy Update ELCA Advocacy
The ELCA e-Advocacy Network has lifted up how the federal farm bill impacts our hungry neighbors, God's creation, and the vibrancy of rural communities and farms. A large piece of federal policy in scope and length, the farm bill must be reauthorized every few years or many of its programs will expire or revert to their original forms, based on laws that were passed many years ago.
