The ELCA Malaria Campaign Needs You
Pr. Eric Carlson, Assistant to the Bishop

The ELCA Malaria Campaign, officially launched in the Southeastern Iowa Synod at the synod assembly in May, invites congregations to engage in an effort to contain malaria by 2015. Working though Lutheran churches in Africa, the ELCA Malaria Campaign is uniquely positioned to provide mosquito nets, insecticides, medication, health care, education and more to help eliminate deaths from this disease-for good.

The 2012 Assembly of the Southeastern Iowa Synod passed a resolution encouraging 100% participation of congregations in the ELCA Malaria Campaign by the year 2015. While the total number of congregations currently involved in the campaign is yet to be determined, a total of $109,000 has been raised by congregations throughout the synod as of the end of November, contributing to the $15 million goal for the entire campaign.

The SWAT Team (Synod-Wide Anti-Malaria Team) of the Southeastern Iowa Synod invites congregations to engage more fully in the campaign by viewing the synod's ELCA Malaria Campaign website. The SWAT Team invites congregations to share their campaign stories, events and fundraising ideas through an electronic form available by clicking here.

Jessica Nipp Hacker, Corrdinator of the ELCA Malaria Campaign, reported that $3 million has been raised so far. Read more of her report and invitation to congregations by
