Brewing Faith Perspectives at the Coffee Klatch
Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, IA
On Saturday afternoon, October 20, 2012, from 3 to 4 PM, at Coffeesmiths (Cedar Rapids SW), Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church, an ELCA congregation in Cedar Rapids launched its first ever Coffee Klatch. The conversation was lively, and ranged over current events, corporate life, and how we might respond to life as people of faith.
It had started with an invitation from Pastor Jo Kinnard to members in the target age-group of 18 to 30, an age-bracket that is disappearing in many congregations, and has been noticed to have decreased in church attendance in recent times across denominations, as noted in different studies

Last Day to Register for Bishop's Day of Renewal:
November 19th Last day for online registration for "There's Not Enough Time...Bishop's Day of Renewal for Rostered Leaders" is Monday, November 19th. Registration is just $10 per rostered leader. The same event will be held in two locations, one in Cedar Rapids (Nov. 29th) and one in Des Moines (Nov. 30th). Guest speaker Jill Farmer will present on how to tap into an unrecognized abundance of time to nourish body, mind and soul in a way that revitalizes and reenergizes ministry. Recent Glocal Mission Gathering Inspires and Equips

The ELCA Glocal Mission Gathering, held November 2-3 at Faith Lutheran Church in Clive, brought members from congregations across the Southeastern Iowa Synod as well surrounding states for a day and a half of worship, workshops and sharing around global and local mission. Participants gathered around the questions, "What is mission? and Who is the neighbor?," especially as they relate to our migrating and immigrating world.
Congregations were invited to bring mission teams who would be equipped for God's work in today's global and local realities as well as their "glocal" intersections. Throughout the two days, participants learned how local congregations are changing how they proclaim and serve, how lead inviting worship that includes global voices, and how to serve in a way that is sustainable, respectful, and cross-culturally sensitive.
Special thanks goes to work of the Southeastern Iowa Synod Commission for Global Relations, the local planning committee, churchwide staff, musicians and key presenters.
