The 2016 Jackie Auerbach Award: WHS is filled with special teachers and staff and PTSA members have the opportunity to nominate one of these deserving teachers for a special recognition, the Jackie Auerbach award. This award recognizes the extraordinary contributions Walton Staff Members make, not only to educating our children, but to enhancing their overall high school experience. Walton 101 Presentations: Walton HS PTSA invites parents of our incoming Class of 2020 to our Walton 101 presentations at the East Cobb Government Center. Join us as we present " Walton: A-Z!" Choose a date and time that is convenient for you: April 18th: 9:30-11:00 am, April 18th: 7:00-8:30 pm; or April 26th: 7:00-8:30 pm.
Mentors available for Walton students: Through the Walton Career Coach program, students can sign up to be matched with up to 3 professionals of their choice. Students can choose Coaches whose career fields are best suited to their interests and career goals. Coaches offer opportunities for students to exchange emails and phone calls, conduct informational interviews and visit their place of work. We have a diverse group of Coaches and this is a great opportunity for our students to get hands on experiences that can help them make better choices of high school courses, colleges to investigate and careers to pursue. Walton Ambassador Program: Applications for the Walton Ambassador Program are now available in G-104 and G-123. Current members wishing to reapply may pick up a green form. All others should pick up the pink form.

Approximately 105,000 10th grade students in Georgia completed the PSAT in October, 2015. Last month, The College Board reached out to these students who have taken the PSAT/NMSQT to let them know they have an advantage that no student has had before. For the first time ever, they can connect the results of their PSAT/NMSQT and PSAT 8/9 directly to Official SAT Practice on Khan Academy to create a free personalized practice plan just for them, focusing on improving the specific skills that will help them do their absolute best on the SAT and other high stakes exams. However, only 5,595 Georgia students have linked their accounts to Khan Academy.

Save-The-Date for all Seniors and their families: Your Senior Evening of Inspiration is Monday, May 23rd at 7:00 pm. It will be held at the Roswell Street Baptist Church. Please plan on attending this non-religious, enjoyable event, planned by the seniors! Senior Picnic: We are so excited for the Senior Picnic on April 27th and so grateful to have your support. We are coordinating with the Super Senior Club and planning a fun and memorable day for our students. We need lots of parent volunteers to make sure everything runs smoothly and to ensure the safety of our children and what a great excuse to spend the day with your child before they head off to college or to face the world. There are time slots for those who can only do specific times or feel free to sign up for all day, set up to clean up, 8:30 AM - 2:00 PM. Up to three $500 scholarships will be awarded to Timber Ridge graduates: two to expected graduates of Pope or Walton High Schools, and one to a special education student from Pope or Walton. The deadline for the application to be received at the Timber Ridge Elementary School office is Tuesday, April 12, 2016.
Scholarship opportunity: The Sope Creek PTA will award a $500 scholarship to one Walton senior who attended Sope Creek Elementary. The deadline for the applications is April 29. Senior Pictures Needed: Calling all senior parents to send in photos of their student. Photos have to be SCHOOL photos, such as sports, fine arts, community outreach, Prom, etc... ONLY SENIORS. Save your "Cool Things" for "Cool Girls!" The PTSA Community Outreach Club will hold its annual Cool Girls Drive April 18-22. Start saving gently used accessories, pajamas and room décor for school age girls then bring your donations to the front office during the drive. You will get a donation receipt, clean out a spot in your closet and make a special "Cool Girl" very happy!
Walton's Global Festival coming April 22: This year, Walton Global Connections Club's annual Global Festival will be Friday, April 22nd from 6-8pm in Walton's auditorium and fine arts hall! Come for the opportunity to see performances (ranging from flamenco dances to K-Pop songs) and also traditional outfits from all over the world. We will have henna artists and free cultural foods available along with booths so that you can learn about different countries. Come to learn about different cultures and also to help us in raising money for the Liberty In North Korea foundation. Attendance is absolutely free, but donations are welcome! Hope to see you there!

Beach Book Giveaway: The Walton Media Center will hold its 3rd annual Beach Book Giveaway during the month of May. The books will be displayed in the Media Center and offered free to students, teachers, parents, and visitors. As you do your spring cleaning, please consider donating used books to the Media Center. Books can be dropped off at the front desk (at the new entrance) Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. now through May 13. Thanks for helping us support literacy and a love for reading in the Walton community.

Walton High School Volleyball: Tryouts will be held on Saturday, May 14th, from 9:00 am-1:00 pm in the Walton High School Gym. These tryouts are for rising 9th-12th grade girls (2016-2017 school year). If you are interested in trying out for a high school team, please visit our website at www.waltonvolleyball.com for more information as well as the link to register.
