AT WORK

Project Update:
SR 417 / Florida's Turnpike Partial Interchange

The partial interchange between SR 417

and Florida's Turnpike officially opened

on Jan. 26. The newly constructed ramps connect southbound 417 to southbound Turnpike and northbound Turnpike to northbound 417.

Have you used the new ramps yet?

CFX REWIND

CFX recently participated in the annual Mount Dora Arts Festival on Feb. 7-8. The event is hosted by the Mount Dora Center for the Arts, a community-based, non-profit organization.

More than 1,000 attendees had the opportunity to ask questions about
E-PASS, the expressway system and Wekiva Parkway. Many expressed their support for Wekiva Parkway, a 25-mile expressway that will complete the beltway around Metropolitan Orlando.

FREE E-PASS FOR CENTRAL FLORIDA

As part of our plan to provide options to Central Florida drivers during the I-4 Ultimate Project, we're excited to announce that Polk County residents can now sign up for a free E-PASS transponder!

The transponders will help make it easier for commuters currently using I-4 to use an alternate route, like 417 and 429, to travel to or around downtown Orlando.

Not only do tolls cost less when you pay electronically, E-PASS customers can also earn volume discounts when using our system. The CFX board will explore more I-4 alternative options at our March meeting.

There is no cost to have an E-PASS account.
Activation requires $25 in prepaid tolls. You can request the sticker online, at one of our service centers or by phone at (407) 823-7277.
SPEED LIMIT INCREASE

If you've been on 417 or 429 lately, you've probably noticed that our new 70 MPH speed limit signs are up! Please remember to always use caution when driving, especially on the expressways and in construction zones. Stay focused on the road and never text and drive!

I-4 ULTIMATE UPDATE

Governor Rick Scott was in Orlando on Feb. 17 for the ceremonial groundbreaking of the Florida Department of Transportation's I-4 Ultimate Improvement Project. CFX board member and Seminole County Commissioner Brenda Carey was on hand to help kick off the project. A major part of the effort will be to improve the I-4/408 interchange, although you won't be seeing construction on 408 until March or April, at the earliest. When it does start, no lane closures will be permitted between 6 AM and 9 PM.

YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED

What should I do if I throw exact change into the toll plaza basket and the light stays red?

You may have encountered a jammed machine, which does happen from time to time. A signal is sent to our maintenance contractor to come out and fix the machine as soon as possible.

Place the correct amount of change in the basket and then drive on. Even if the light doesn't turn green, we won't fine you. It's best to keep moving and avoid a traffic jam or accident.

DID YOU KNOW ... ?

Did you know that you can use your E-PASS to pay for parking at the Orlando International Airport? Just drive through the E-PASS lane when you arrive and when you leave, and your account will be charged for parking. No additional fees.

*If you're a SunPass customer and would like to take advantage of this option, log into your account and sign up for "Easy Pay" with SunPass Plus.

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT

Road Rangers patrol our system 365 days a year from 6 AM to 8 PM helping drivers and clearing debris from the road. Did you know this service is completely FREE to you? Dial *FHP when you need assistance or click here for more info.

Meet one of our Road Rangers: PATRICK D'ANGELO.

How long have you been a Road Ranger?

For about 3 years. Before that, I was in mechanical construction and attended the police academy in Lake County.

What's your favorite part about your job?

I really enjoy helping people. There's not many jobs out there where people actually thank you and appreciate you. This is one of them!

What's the craziest thing you've seen lately?

Every day there is something new. Recently we had to work with Orlando Police to remove a 10 foot alligator from the 408 near Crystal Lake.

Any safety advice you'd like to share?

Please move over to the next lane or slow down when you see us on the side of the road. The Move Over Law applies to all law enforcement and safety vehicles, including Road Rangers.
