PROJECT UPDATE:
SR 528 AIRPORT PLAZA

The Notice to Proceed for this project has been set for Monday, November 10, 2014. After that date, you'll start to see barrier walls, construction equipment and initial clearing.

The Airport Plaza will not be demolished until 2016, as that is one of the last phases of the project. It will still be functional until the new ramp plazas are up and running.

Visit our website for more information on this projects. We have several videos showing how this will affect your commute.

CFX REWIND: WEKIVA PARKWAY OPEN HOUSE

Last month, we held a community open house for two CFX sections of the Wekiva Parkway - 1A and 1B. Nearly 130 people attended the event at Apopka High School to learn more about how the road will impact their area. Thank you to all who came out and shared feedback!

Section 1A will run from north of US 441 to north of Ponkan Road, while Section 1B will run from north of Ponkan Road to north of a New Kelly Park Road Interchange. Click here to learn more.

SPEED LIMIT ADJUSTMENT

Independent studies conducted by CFX and Florida's Turnpike Enterprise (FTE) found that 85% of drivers on SR 417 and SR 429 travel between 70-79 MPH.

Both roads were designed and built to handle 70 MPH, in compliance with Florida State Statutes 316.187 and 316.189. The board approved the adjustment from 65 to 70 MPH on these two roads.

Staff is currently developing an implementation plan, which includes coordination with law enforcement and FTE as well as sign replacements. Stay tuned for more information on the upcoming change, which is anticipated to go into effect in January 2015

SAFETY SPOTLIGHT

Safety is a top priority for CFX. We want to make sure our system is a safe alternative for drivers. This month, we're highlighting DYNAMIC MESSAGE SIGNS.

A study done by the University of Central Florida & CFX found that most drivers would prefer to see graphics rather than just words on dynamic message signs (DMS). As a result, we've installed our first high-resolution color DMS on SR 414 and 429. In the future, we plan to implement these throughout our entire system - making the information easier, safer and faster to read for our customers.

YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED

I like the landscaping used on the expressways. How can I use it in my own yard?

Because you choose to ride our system, we make enhancing your driving experience a priority. Our landscaping is all designed using plants that are drought tolerant, ultimately reducing our costs on mowing and maintenance. It also helps with erosion control and beautifies our system overall.

The plants we use consist of mostly Florida native species that are available locally for use in your own yard. Click here to learn more.
