"Marketing Mix": Don't Be Afraid Of Twitter!
In the Marketing Mix segment of our last issue of Spreading the Word, we discussed the growing importance of social media in your company's marketing plans. In this issue, we will give a more in depth look at how Twitter is becoming an increasingly valuable marketing tool.
Ask most people over the age of 40 what the business value is of an active Twitter account and you're more likely to be laughed at than given a straight answer. Twitter, however, is no laughing matter. With over 550 million registered users averaging 58 million tweets a day, to go along with advertising revenue at nearly $400 million, Twitter is a vibrant, active, powerful network that is here to stay.
So the question becomes, how does Twitter work for your business? What's the value? Like most marketing services, it is difficult to quantify the dollar value of a tweet. However, what Twitter does offer you is effectively a distribution list of people and businesses who have opted in to your message. This is invaluable. It allows your business a direct line of communication to anyone and everyone who has shown even a slight interest in what you have to say. It will be the easiest lead generation your company will ever get.
Once your Twitter feed is active and generating buzz, this list will grow as more people sign on to hear what your company has to say. If what you're saying is interesting enough, conversations can start, expanding the amount of people that are viewing your message. With hundreds of millions of users on Twitter, the potential exposure for your company is massive.
In addition to our own Twitter feed ( follow us!), Next Step has created and maintains Twitter accounts for numerous clients to date, and we continue to be impressed with the feedback. Twitter is a unique way for your company to create its own story, its own message, and its own spin, and deliver it directly to the people who are most interested in hearing about it. It is easy to get started, and just as easy to get hooked. Let us help you get off the ground today!

Next Step will be at K, providing support for its clients ranging from turnkey exhibit displays and graphics to on-site PR services. Are you exhibiting at K? Let us know - we're here to help!

BOSTON STRONG
I grew up in the suburbs of Boston, and for me and millions of others, Patriots' Day in April always had a special meaning - it was truly one of the best days of the year. A unique New England holiday, Patriot's Day was school vacation, the 11 a.m. Red Sox game at Fenway, and most of all, the Boston Marathon. It was the unofficial start of spring, the day Boston shook off winter and everyone came out to celebrate.
When the unthinkable happened in Boston this past April 15th, and terrorists set off bombs at the Boston Marathon finish line, everything changed. And once again, innocence - and lives - were lost due to another senseless tragedy.
Personally, I was and continue to be inspired by the many acts of courage and kindness that I watched unfold that day, and continue to unfold for the victims every day since. While most of the world, and even Boston and its people, are moving on from the events of that day, 'moving on' is not so easy to do for the victims and their families.

In that spirit Next Step has made a financial contribution to 'One Fund Boston', (www.onefundboston.org), a fund set up by the city where 100% of the proceeds raised support all of the many Marathon bombing victims and their families.
A great new term has sprung out of the events of April 15th - 'Boston Strong'. I am extremely proud to be a Bostonian, never more so than now. I ask that you please join us and consider a contribution to One Fund Boston. Thank you.
