Happy Spring Log Rollers!

After this seemingly endless winter, it is finally time to throw our logs back in the lakes and rivers in anticipation of a great 2013 season!  The US Log Rolling Association has been working hard in the off season to make this the best year of log rolling yet!  Thank you to everybody who took the time to fill out the member survey to help guide us in our 2013 focuses.

In 2013 the USLRA is responsible for:

  • Launching a "Starting a New Program" section of our website, along with instructional videos and an e-book.
  • YMCA mailing campaign promoting the launch of new programs.
  • Re-launching rental equipment for tournament use.
  • Providing T-shirts for early registered members.
  • Providing insurance assistance for tournaments.
  • Setting up a grant to enable more tournaments to reach Level 2 status.

All of the above is in continuation to our dedication of promoting and perpetuating the sport of log rolling.

We would also like to welcome our new board members for 2013!

We love hearing how all of the various log rolling programs are running year-round. Below are some photos and stories shared by log rolling programs around the country.  Have stories and photos you would like to share?  E-mail them to us at info@uslogrolling.com!

Grand Rapids, Michigan:

Grand Rapids YMCA

The tribe at the South East Y in Grand Rapids, Michigan waves good morning before class on Saturday's.
(Clearly, Jake Ogle and JD Ettinger don't understand the concept exactly?)
We continue to draw new talent interested in learning the rich history of this great American sport and then getting out there to spin !

Madison, Wisconsin:

Madison rollers have been rolling strong all fall and winter at the Dane County West and East YMCAs.  The highlight of our indoor season was the Capitol Splash Log Rolling tournament, with over 40 outstanding amateur rollers.

We are very excited to get the logs into Lake Wingra (painting and recarpeting has already begun!) in just a few short weeks!

Check out our facebook page for great photos and updates.   Also visit our website at: http://www.madisonlogrolling.com

La Crosse/Onalaska, Wisconsin:
Rusty Ankle

LaCrescent, MN aquatics center will now be offering classes two days a week.  There will be the two summer tournaments this year in our area: The La Crosse Open & Three Rivers Roleo - hopefully with increased prize money!  All spring indoor La Crosse classes filled up and the 2013 Rusty Ankle tournament was a huge success!
Update From Key Log Rolling
La Crosse Open

Key Log
After two years of focused design and manufacturing development, the lighter, more portable synthetic Key Log™ is ready for sale. At 64 lbs, its patent-pending baffled system allows the Key Log to float, spin, and react just like a cedar wood log. It can sit in the water without getting "water-logged," and it doesn't peel, splinter, crack, rot, or mold. And with the built-in traction surface, fraying/peeling carpets are a maintenance hassle of the past. We believe the Key Log will revolutionize the sport by giving everyone easier access. Now, ANYONE can learn, teach, and offer demos!

We have always known that people were intrigued by the sport of log rolling but we didn't anticipate such an overwhelming and positive response to the Key Log. We spent the winter attending camp conferences, encountering hundreds of camp directors who have never even heard about log rolling but now view log rolling as an authentic addition to their waterfronts.  We believe the same excitement will be shared by lake home owners and anyone with a back yard pond or pool.  Portability is KEY.

The mission at Key Log Rolling is to grow the sport. The Key Log is an important tool. Developing qualified instructors is equally important, so we have have developed Teacher Training Clinics which we will be expanding over the next year at camps, aquatic facilities, municipalities and universities. Log rolling is not complicated to teach, it just takes supervision and simple instruction.  Contact us if you would like to learn more about developing a log rolling program at your local aquatic facility, school, or university.

Check out our new website at www.keylogrolling.com. If you are interested in more information, please fill out an online inquiry. We will be updating the site with accessories and cool gear including t-shirts. Sign up for our blog to stay current with our updates, and "Like" us Facebook to receive updates including historical photos. If you have log rolling photos from any era that you would like to share with our growing community of log rollers, please do!  We are excited for the future but value the history of this exciting American sport.  https://www.facebook.com/pages/Key-Log-Rolling/179801862076051?ref=ts&fref=ts
