New Real Estate Board Regulations Effective Nov. 1st
Governor Terry McAuliffe has signed the new Virginia Real Estate Board Regulations, which will go into effect November 1, 2015. Highlights of some of the revisions include:
- For sale or for lease signs placed on property must at least include the firm's name and the firm's primary or branch office phone number.
- Owner/Agent must be disclosed in advertising even if the property is listed with a firm. (This applies if the licensee owns or has any ownership interest in the property being advertised.)
- A licensee shall not submit copies of the same earnest money deposit with multiple offers.
- A licensee shall not represent in offers that licensee has received the earnest money deposit when he has not or the licensee knows the check is worthless.
- Showing property and holding an open house are defined as licensed activity.
- Licensees are prohibited from allowing unsupervised access to a home without the owner's authorization.
- Excess continuing education credits completed by the licensee that are obtained within 6 months immediately prior to the license expiration date will carry over in the next 2-year renewal period.
